Disk Library Maintenance (Schedule type)

Updated

Use this dialog box to run or schedule a disk maintenance job.

Immediate

Select this option to run the job immediately.

Schedule

Select this option to create a schedule for this job. Click Configure to configure the schedule options.

Library Properties (General)

Use this dialog box to view or modify the properties of a disk library.

Library Name

The alias provided by the user for the library. The alias can be changed at any time without affecting the ability to restore data that might have already been backed up using the library.

Associated MediaAgents

The name(s) of the MediaAgent(s) that controls the library.

Number of Mount Paths

The total number of mount paths that are defined for the library.

Status

The status of the library.

Disk Space

The amount of space occupied on the disk. By default, the MediaAgent automatically updates the status of the disk space every 30 minutes. This is done based on the Interval (Minutes) between disk space updates parameter set in the Media Management Configuration dialog box.

Disks that require attention are indicated by a yellow icon. If the amount of space exceeds the maximum limit (that is, 95%), then the Space Status icon is highlighted in red. In this case, you must free up some space or add more space to the volume or modify the mount path.

Enable Library

Select this to bring the library online and make it available for use. Clear this option to take the library offline. When a library is offline, all the mount paths are inaccessible to the MediaAgent.

A library's online/offline status reflects its logical availability to the MediaAgent, not its physical availability. For example, a library can be enabled even if it is physically unavailable because of a hardware failure.

Hide Library

Indicates whether the library should be visible in the CommCell Console. When selected, the library will not be visible when the Show hidden libraries option available in Service Configuration tab of Media Management Configuration dialog box is disabled.

Mark Library Offline for Maintenance

Select this option to make the library unavailable for read/write operations such as backup, restore or auxiliary copy operations. However, the library will be available to perform other administrative tasks.

This option is useful when you wish to perform administrative or maintenance tasks on the library.

Mark Archive files as Read-Only

Note

This option applies to non-deduplicated data only.

When this option is selected, the system creates archive files in the disk library with read-only permissions.

When this option is cleared, the system creates archive files in the disk library with all permissions.

Use this option with the following filers:

  • Data Domain (Retention Locks)

  • Dell EMC VNX / Celerra (File Level Retention)

  • Hitachi Vantara HCP (Atime Retention)

  • NetApp (SnapLock)

  • Permabit (WORM Retention)

  • HPE StorageWorks X9000 6.0 Network Storage Systems

  • Fujitsu ETERNUS CS High End

  • NEC HYDRAstor (HYDRAlock)

  • Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale SmartLock - In addition to the setting to enable the WORM (write once read many) capability, use EnableIsilonSmartLock additional settings on the disk library MediaAgents to enable the Isilon's Smart Lock feature and to indicate that the mount path is hosted on the Isilon device. For more information on creating the additional setting, see Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.

With Netapp, use this option to create read-only archive files on NetApp SnapLock volumes with access time set according to the retention days (backup or archiver retention days, whichever is higher) specified in the storage policy copy.

Timeouts (in Minutes)

The timeout parameter determines how long a job waits for a status response after an operation is requested. If the job does not receive a success or failure status within the timeout period, the job is terminated and a failure message is displayed. You can set the following timeout periods:

  • Mount

The number of minutes used to mount the library for read/write operations.

  • Unmount

The number of minutes used to unmount the library after a read/write operation.

Offline Reason

Indicates the offline reason when the Status of the library is displayed as Offline.

Description

Use this field to enter a description about the disk library. This description can include information about the disk library's content, any cautionary notes, and so on.

Library Properties (Mount Paths)

Use this dialog box to view or modify the mount path properties of a disk library.

Attributes

  • Automatically add data paths for new drivepools configured

When enabled, the system automatically adds the alternate data paths for a shared library.

  • Disks within this library support Hardware Single Instancing

When this option is selected, the underlying storage is able to do single instancing on files if the same file content is written multiple times. For example, Centera supports hardware based single instancing.

    Note

For underlying storage hardware like Data Domain which has parsing logic of Commvault's data format, there is no need to write data in individual small files. The data is written in a container format, where multiple files are combined together into a chunk.

This option is not applicable for Commvault's Deduplication.

  • Prevent accidental deletion of data from mountpaths

Select this option to prevent contents of mount paths (on Windows platforms) from being accidentally deleted. Mount paths created when this option is enabled are protected from accidental deletion.

Do not enable this option when:

    • The mount path(s) in the library are hosted on WORM hardware that has options to control and prevent accidental deletions, such as SmartLock in Isilon, or

    • The Mark Archive files as Read-Only option is selected in the General tab of Library Properties dialog box.

Mount Path Usage

The following parameters are applicable when there are several mount paths in the disk library:

  • Fill and spill mount paths (Use new mount paths only as needed)

Specifies that the system should completely consume (fill) the free space in a mount path before using another mount path.

  • Spill and fill mount paths (Load balance use of mount paths)

Specifies that the system should round-robin (spill) between the available mount paths for each job.

Prefer mount paths with more free space

Specifies that while using the round-robin method to write the data, the system will use the mount path with the most free space available. The Free space in GB can be defined using the Free space difference in GB to consider preferring mount paths with more free space parameter.

  • Select mount path for MediaAgent according to the preferred setting

Specifies the mount path that must be picked for write operations. (By default this option is cleared .)

When selected, the mount path set as the 'preferred' mount path for the MediaAgent (selected in the data path), is picked for write operations.

When cleared, the mount path is picked based either on the 'spill and fill' or the 'fill and spill' option set for the library.

    Note

Select this option to prevent write operations from occurring over a network.

Mount Path Allocation Policy

  • Maximum Allowed Writers

When selected, maximum concurrent writers on the disk library will be established.

  • Allocate number of Writers

By default, maximum concurrent writers are established on the disk library. To limit the number of writers, type the number of writers that you want to allocate.
