Allow backup jobs to run to deduplication storage policy copy when DDB is an unusable state |
Definition: Specifies the jobs to run to the deduplicated storage policy without deduplicating the data. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) This is useful when all partitions of deduplication database is offline or invalid and the deduplication database reconstruction is taking more time than expected, the backup jobs can be continued to the same deduplicated storage policy without deduplicating the data. The value 1 represent Yes and value 0 represents No. By default the value is set to 0. |
Allow backup reservation to use spare based on barcode order only |
Definition: Specifies that the media will be selected based on barcode sequence. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) By default, the media available in the scratch pool is selected based on the Spare Media Selection Criteria, which is defined in the Spare Group Properties (General) dialog box. However, when this parameter is set to 1, media is selected based on the barcode sequence order. If the media barcode is a combination of numbers and strings, then the resource manager will select the media based on ascending string order. For example, if this parameter is set to 1, then from a random barcode sequence order as mentioned below.

Allow load-balance on multiple data paths within one backup job |
Description: You can create reservations on multiple data paths at the same time and when Round-robin between data paths option is enabled for the copy and there is no LAN-free MediaAgent, then load is balanced amongst multiple data paths and all the reservations are distributed evenly amongst the available data paths. However, if there are more than one LAN-free data paths available, then all the reservations are evenly distributed amongst all the LAN-free data paths. This parameter is applicable to the following agents:

Allow Media used by Silo Archive job to contain data from different deduplication database |
Definition: Specifies whether a single media used by a Silo archive job can contain data from different deduplication database. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (No) or 1 (Yes) Usage: Each deduplication database covers a period of time and the associated data. When a new DDB is started, the default action for Silo is to start new media. This parameter allows a tape/media to be shared between DDBs. If aging/recycling of Silo media is a concern, then leave this parameter in its default state (0/No). If conserving media is a concern, then enable (1/Yes) this parameter. |
Allow restore jobs to use alternative MediaAgent and Drive Pool to access required media |
Definition: Specifies the subclient to use alternative MediaAgent which has access to media that has backed up data. Default Value: 1 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) Usage: This is useful when the existing MediaAgent of a subclient is unable to access backed up data during restore operation, by enabling this parameter the alternative MediaAgent will be used to access the media for restore. |
Allow restore, index restore or backup to pick MediaAgent based on the distance to restore location |
Definition: Specifies the system to select the MediaAgent that is geographically closest to the backup or the restore location. The geographical location is fetched when the MediaAgent and the client computer has internet connectivity. For more information on ability to track client computers, see My Computers - Track Location. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) Usage: This is useful when multiple MediaAgents are available for backups and restores and they are located at various geographical locations. Note: If this parameter is enabled, MediaAgent selection based on geographical location will take precedence over the Round Robin between data paths and the Use preferred data path options. However, if there is a LAN free MediaAgent, then that MediaAgent takes the highest precedence over other options. |
Data Threshold (in GB) to decide how to distribute data among streams for backup |
Definition: Specifies the maximum amount of data that can be distributed among streams. Default Value: 500 GB Range: 0 to 5000 Usage: This parameter is used when stream randomization is enabled to balance the stream loading. A lower value will more evenly distribute the streams. A higher value may load one stream more than the other, but improved the throughput. A value of 0 disabled the use of stream randomization. While backing up to multi-stream storage policy, by default, the first few streams in the storage policy accumulates a large percentage of data which gets protected. This results in non-optimal usage of number of streams during Auxiliary copy job, where the streams with large data will keep transferring data, while other streams will not have any data to transfer. Therefore, all streams will not be used during Auxiliary copy job, even if there are resources available to use. This will reduce the overall throughput of the auxiliary copy job. With this option, the maximum amount of data can be distributed among streams. |
Disk volume physical size high watermark in GB |
Definition: Specifies the maximum size of the disk volumes, reaching which, a new volume will be created. The default value is set to 25 GB. You can set the value between 0 to 1,000. If the value is set to '0' the high watermark check is disabled. Default Value: 25 GB Range: 0 to 1000 GB Usage: Used to keep magnetic volume sizes (and number of chunks/files per volume) to a manageable level. There is little advantage to larger volumes. However, smaller volumes (25 GB) might be more prudent if using Silo storage where volumes are restored from tape to the magnetic library in support of file restore operations. |
Force to use the same MediaAgent for create index and backup phases during NAS backup reservation |
Definition: When this option is enabled, during NAS backup, the backup phase is forced to run on the same MediaAgent where the create Index phase was run. Default Value: 1 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) |
Free space difference in GB to consider preferring mount paths with more free space |
Definition: Specifies the free space difference in GB to be considered when selecting a mount path. If the free space difference among mount paths is more or equal to the value specified by this parameter and the Prefer mount paths with more free space option is selected in the library properties, then the mount path with more free space will be given high priority. For Example: If mount path MP1 has 100 GB free space, mount path MP2 has 112 GB free space and mount path MP3 has 105 GB free space, and the value of the parameter is set as 10, then MP2 will be used. Default Value: 10 Range: 2 to 2147483647 |
Honor load balance for picking read MediaAgent |
Definition: By default, the MediaAgent specified as the Preferred MediaAgent in the Mount Path Properties is selected for read operations. Enable this option to select the source MediaAgent using the Round-Robin between Data Paths option for read operations. To ensure load balancing between available MediaAgents for readers, the data path configuration must have the Round-Robin between Data Paths option enabled on the source storage policy copy. Supported: Read operations for Auxiliary Copy and Restore jobs. Not Supported: Read operations for Auxiliary Copy jobs with the Use Scalable Resource Allocation option enabled and Synthetic Full jobs. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) Usage: This is useful to achieve load balancing when multiple MediaAgents are configured to access a source library. |
Honor use alternate data path configuration for picking index MediaAgent |
Definition: Specifies that the default data path will be selected for backup copy jobs if the Use Alternate Data Path option is selected. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) Usage: By default, for backup copy operations, the data path selection is random for agents like NAS when data path configuration is configured with Use Alternate Data Path option on the Storage Policy Copy Properties. With this parameter enabled, the default data path will be given highest preference for the backup copy operation. |
Interval (in minutes) to calculate valid data size for streams |
Definition: Specifies the interval at which the valid data is checked to calculate the data size for streams. If the value is set to '0' the data size calculation is disabled. Default Value: 60 minutes Range: 0 to 1440 Usage: When a storage policy is configured to use more than one data stream, it is important that the data streams are equally used. If you enable the stream randomization feature, the system chooses the data streams randomly. This increases the rate of data transfer by copying data from different streams in parallel. Use this parameter with Threshold (in GB) to decide how to distribute data among streams for backup. Use this parameter when stream randomization is enabled to balance the stream loading. A lower value will check the stream and rebalance more often. A higher value may allow streams to expire, but improves throughput. A value of 0 disables the use of stream randomization. |
Load-Balance among available Search Engines for Offline Content Indexing job |
Definition: Specifies the multi stream backup data to be distributed amount multiple nodes of a cloud. Default Value: 1 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) Usage: In a multi-node setup, when this parameter is enabled, the backup job will be distributed among different nodes for load balancing. |
Maximum allowed number of drive reservations per NAS Filer |
Definition: Specifies the number of tape drives that can be in use on a particular NAS file server. This is useful since some file servers have a limit to the number of concurrent backup or restore jobs that can be run. The number entered will limit the number of tape drives that can be in use at a given time. For example, if five backup jobs were started for a particular NAS file server, but the number specified with this option was set to four, then the fifth job will be held in a waiting state until one of the jobs completes. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 to 100 Usage: This is useful since some file servers have a limit to the number of concurrent backup or restore jobs that can be run. The number entered will limit the number of tape drives that can be in use at a given time. For example, if five backup jobs were started for a particular NAS file server, but the number specified with this option was set to four, then the fifth job will be held in a waiting state until one of the jobs completes. |
Maximum number of parallel data transfer operations for deduplication engine |
Definition: Specifies the number of streams used by backups, auxiliary copy operation, and so on, to access the deduplication database. Default Value: 200 (Note: If CommServe is installed or upgraded from Commvault package earlier than SP2 release, then the default value will appear as 50.) Range: 0 to 600 Usage: The number of streams to DDB should not exceed the maximum range as it may degrade the performance. Note that, this parameter has precedence over the device streams specified on the Storage Policy properties. For example, if the storage policy is set to 100 device streams and this parameter is set to 50, then only 50 device streams will be used to access the DDB. |

Prefer using LAN-Free Search Engine for Offline Content Indexing job |
Definition: Specifies whether LAN-free setup (that is, MediaAgent installed on the same computer as Search Engine) will be used for content indexing the data. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) By default, the value is set to 0, which means the search engine node on which the data will be content indexed is decided by the number of documents on a node. Usage: For example, if node 1 has 10 Kb more documents that were content indexed successfully than node 2, then the data will be content indexed on node 2. If the value is set to 1, then the data is content indexed on search engine node with LAN-free setup, that is, using the MediaAgent installed on the same computer as Search Engine. |

Definition: By default, the LAN-free MediaAgents are selected even if these MediaAgents are not part of the source storage policy copy data path. However, you can configure the Prefer copy data paths for picking read MediaAgent parameter to select a MediaAgent configured in the source storage policy copy data path. Prefer MediaAgent having same additional setting as client |
Definition: Allows you to select a MediaAgents that is paired with a client for data protection operations. The client and the MediaAgent are paired when they both have the PreferredMediaAgentGroup additional setting with the same values. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) Usage: By default, the value is set to 0. To enable dynamic mapping between MediaAgents and roaming clients, set the value to 1. |
Prefer MediaAgent preferred to mount path for read operation |
Definition: Specifies the MediaAgent that must be picked for read operations. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) When the value is set to 1, the MediaAgent picked for read operations is the one that has the 'preferred' setting for the mount path from which data is being read. Usage: Enable this option to prevent read operations from occurring over the network. Note: LAN-free operations always takes precedence over the value established in this setting. |

Definition: Specifies the detail reason for resource allocation failure. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) By default the option is set to 0 to displays only top three reasons of the failure. If the value is set to 1, all reasons for each data path will be displayed. Usage: In a storage policy copy that has many data paths, if there are any resource allocation failure for the data path, the reason behind this failure is displayed in the Job Controller for each data path. |

Definition: Specifies whether the spare media selection for active, appendable media will be based on the media type specified in spare media group. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) 1 (enabled) Usage: Enable this option to use only the specified media type associated with the scratch pool. For example, if you have different media types for different drive types. When this option is enabled, an active or appendable media associated with the spare group in the data path of the copy will be used. |

Definition: Select the last MediaAgent used for indexing, when returning a MediaAgent for restore operations. Definition: Omits calculating the number of tape media in the tape library when resources are allocated for a job. Default Value: 1 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) Usage: By default, the tape media calculation is omitted so that performance is optimized during resource allocation. To calculate the number of tape media, set the value to 0. |
Skip drive accessible check for mounted media if drive is not shared with MediaAgent |
Definition: Omit the accessibility check for a mounted media if the drive is not shared with the MediaAgent selected for restoring the data. Default Value: 0 Range: 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled) Usage: Set the value to 1 so that the restore operation picks the drive that has access to the MediaAgent that is selected for restoring the data. The media is unmounted from the existing drive and mounted on the selected drive. If the value is set to 0 and if the media is mounted on a drive that is not shared with the MediaAgent that is selected for restoring the data, then the restore operation might fail with Media mounted in wrong library error message. |
Timeout Interval (in minutes) for cached resources when using reservation backup caching feature |
Definition: Specifies the time-out interval for cached resources. Default Value: 5 minutes Range: 1 to 2880 minutes Usage: This parameter is an interval for how long the resources should be on hold for resource caching feature. This option is useful for the client backup jobs of iDataAgents (such as Oracle, Oracle RAC, DB2, DB2 DPF, and so on) that use the backup caching feature. If this option is enabled, resources will be on hold even if the stream has finished transferring data. For example, if client backup job is using 4 job streams and only 2 device streams are available to transfer the data, 2 job streams will be allocated to use 2 device streams and the other 2 streams will be in waiting state. If the 2 streams have finished transferring data, these streams will be on hold till the amount of interval specified in this option. Once the timeout interval is reached, the other 2 stream will be allocated to the available 2 streams. |
