Enabling Redundancy Check for Files that Qualify for Archiving

Before archiving files, you can perform a redundancy check to ensure that multiple copies of the files are available on the storage media. A file that meets the archiving rules is stubbed only if the data is available in two distinct storage policy copies.

This feature is useful when you have one or more of the following scenarios:

  • You have only one copy of a file on storage media (including tape), and the storage media is corrupted, or the tape is misplaced.

  • You configured retention settings incorrectly, so that the only copy was pruned from the storage media.

Redundancy check is skipped for storage policies configured to use cloud storage or GlusterFS.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > File System > archive_set.

  2. Right-click the archiving_subclient, and then click Properties.

The Subclient Properties dialog box appears.

  3. On the Archiving Rules tab, click the Advanced tab.

  4. To perform a redundancy check for files that qualify for archiving, select the Delay stubbing until archived data is protected in another copy

  5. Click OK.
