Establish a New CommServe Computer

Establish the CommServe on a new computer. You must install the same packages that are installed on the CommServer machine. If you no longer need the MediaAgent package with the CommServer, do not select it during the new installation.

Procedure

  1. To install and configure a new CommServe computer in a non-cluster machine, do the following:

    1. Change the name of the new CommServe computer hostname to the computer hostname of the old CommServe-MediaAgent computer.

    2. Install the CommServe software.

  2. To install and configure a new CommServe computer in a cluster machine, do the following:

    1. Configure Microsoft failover cluster between all the nodes of the cluster environment

    2. To install the server software packages, choose the procedure based on your environment:

  3. Copy the JobResults directory from the old CommServe-MediaAgent computer to the new CommServe client machine in one of the following locations:

    • Local drive, if the new CommServe is in a non-cluster environment.

    • Microsoft failover cluster shared drive, if the new CommServe is in a cluster environment.

  4. Right-click the CommServe client, and then click Properties.

    The properties dialog box for the CommServe client appears.

  5. Click Advanced.

    The Advanced Client Properties dialog box for the CommServe client appears.

  6. On the Job Configuration tab, in the Job Results Directory box, update the directory with the location specified in Step 3.

  7. Click OK.

  8. On the new CommServe computer, start the CommServe services.

  9. Log on to the CommServe computer using administrator privileges.

  10. Enable CommServe activities:

    1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe node, and then click Properties.

      The Properties dialog box for the CommServe appears.

    2. On the Activity Control tab, select the check boxes for all the options, except the Enable All Job Activity check box.

    3. Click OK.
