Exchange Mailbox Backup Quota

Exchange Mailbox Backup Quota lets you manage how much storage space backed up messages consume. Automated notifications are sent to administrators and mailbox owners.

  • A warning is sent when a mailbox exceeds 90 percent of its limit.

  • An alert is sent when a mailbox exceeds its limit.

When a mailbox exceeds 100 percent of its limit, it is skipped during subsequent backups until the mailbox owner frees some space from the backup storage for that mailbox, or when the administrator increases the quota on that mailbox.

Best practice: Mailbox backups should be kept below 90 percent of their quota. Use Exchange Mailbox End-User Delete to delete backed up messages from mailboxes.

Reports

Reports are available for administrators and users to monitor mailbox backup storage consumption.

The Private Metrics Reporting Server updates its reporting data throughout the day as it receives job results from each CommServe host. By default, CommServe hosts send this data once per day at the time that is configured on those CommServe hosts. The reporting server can take up to 15 minutes to process the received data, so the report's content can lag about 15 minutes behind the actual time that a backup job completes.
