How the Commvault Software Works with the DB2 Archive Log Path

When you install the DB2 agent, you specify a DB2 archive log path. The Commvault software stores DB2 archive logs in this staging path to avoid a log backup job for each log archival request.

The DB2 archive logs move from the archive log path to the Commvault media when any of the following conditions are met during an archival log operation:

  • A user initiates a backup from Commvault that includes the logs in the selected subclient.

  • The size of the archive logs reaches the threshold value that is set in the sDb2ThresholdALFS additional setting.

  • The number of archive logs that are in the archive log directory reaches the value that is set in the sDb2ThresholdALFN additional setting.

  • The amount of used disk space is greater than 97%.

The software automatically removes the DB2 archive logs from the DB2 archive log path in the following cases:

  • The subclient has the Delete Log Files After option set (Subclient Properties dialog box, Advanced Options tab, Delete Log Files After check box).

  • When the log backup is automatically submitted because the size of the archive logs reaches the threshold value set in the sDb2ThresholdALFS additional setting.

  • The number of archive logs that are in the archive log directory reaches the value that is set in the sDb2ThresholdALFN additional setting.

  • When the log backup is automatically submitted because the amount of used disk space is greater than 97%.
