Instances for the SQL Server Agent

By default, the instances available on the SQL Server are automatically discovered and displayed in the CommCell Console. If you do not want future instances to be automatically discovered, you can disable the automatic instance discovery and discover the instances manually. You must discover instances either manually or automatically.

  • Use the one-time operation to manually discover all existing SQL instances.

  • Automatic instance discovery that is enabled by default, automatically detects SQL instances when a scheduled discovery runs. Running the automatic instance discovery ensures that the newly added SQL instances are regularly accounted for in backup operations.

  • Manually add a SQL instance on demand before the automatic instance discovery interval completes.

For more information on discovering instances, see Enabling Automatic Discovery of SQL Instances and Manually Discovering SQL Instances.
