Use the Deduplication Database (DDB) Partition summary to monitor the following areas:
-
The space that is consumed by the partition on the disk
-
The amount of storage that you have on the partition
-
The day-to-day partition statistics, such as the number of unique and secondary blocks that are written in the partition in a specific range of time, and the number of blocks that are ready to be pruned from the partition
Note: Disk space is consumed every time new secondary block is added to refer to a unique block.
-
The partition performance
-
Backup activity
-
Partition recovery
About This Task
The DDB Partition summary includes the following:
Properties
Options |
Description |
---|---|
Path |
The location of the partition |
MediaAgent |
The name of the MediaAgent where the partition of DDB is hosted |
Size of DDB path |
The size of the partition that is occupied on the disk |
Total number of Unique Blocks |
The number of unique blocks that are managed by the partition |
Used Space on DDB Disk |
The amount of used space on the disk that hosts the DDB partition |
Free space on DDB Disk |
The amount of space that is available on the disk for partition |
Last DDB Backup Time |
The time of the last DDB backup job |
Last DDB Backup Job Id |
The job ID of the last DDB backup job |
Status |
The status of the partition |
Time taken for Recovery |
The amount of time that was taken to recover the partition |
Last Recovery Time |
The last recovery time of the partition |
Average Q&I Time in last 3 days |
The number and percentage of the average query and insertion (Q&I) time in micro seconds for the past 3 days across each partition The threshold value of the average Q&I time is 2 milliseconds. When the average Q&I time for the past 3 days of a DDB reaches 70% or 90% of the threshold, an event message marked with Major and Critical severity is displayed in the Event Viewer window. See KB Article DD0005 for more information. For subclient association, when the average Q&I time in the last 3 days of a DDB partition reaches 70% of the threshold, an event message marked with Critical severity is displayed. See KB Article DD0006 for more information. The average Q&I time for the past 3 days is calculated as the 3-day median Q&I time value. When fewer Q&I are operations performed on a DDB, the value for Average Q&I Time in last 3 days parameter might appear as zero. This zero value for Q&I time indicates that there is not enough activity by the DDB to properly determine the DDB performance. |
Also, display the number of unique blocks, the number of secondary blocks, the number of blocks that need to be deleted, and the number of connections (jobs such as regular backup job, auxiliary copy jobs, recovery jobs, pruning and so on) that are accessed by this partition in 24 hours.
Charts
The Partition Statistics graph displays day-to-day statistical details of the partition, such as the number of unique blocks, the number of secondary blocks, the number of connections (jobs such as regular backup job, auxiliary copy jobs, recovery jobs, pruning, and so on) accessed by this partition at that time, and the number of blocks that are ready to be pruned. This graph is useful to monitor backup and pruning activity.
Partition Statistics Table
This table includes the following information:
-
The total number of unique and secondary blocks that are managed by this partition
-
The total number of unique blocks that are ready to be pruned on this partition
-
The total number of connections (jobs such as regular backup jobs, auxiliary copy jobs, recovery jobs, and pruning) that are accessed by this partition
-
The average amount of time (in micro seconds) that was taken to query and insert signatures in the database of the partition
Procedure
-
From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources>Deduplication Engines>storage_policy_copy>deduplication_database.
-
Click the partition that you want to monitor.
A tab for the summary opens in the CommCell Console.
-
In the Partition Statistics chart, do the following
-
Expand Chart Options, and then specify value in the For Last Days list box to view the statistics of the partition for a specific time range.
-
Expand the Display Options, and then select the options that you want to display in the graph.
