Moving a Deduplication Database

You can move a deduplication database (DDB) to another location on the same MediaAgent or to a new MediaAgent. You can move the DDB across platforms, that is from Windows to Linux or vice versa, if both the source MediaAgent and the destination MediaAgent have the same endianness.

Where you want to move the DDB

Method to use

  • The volume that hosts the DDB does not have enough space and you want to move the DDB to another volume that has adequate space.

  • You plan to upgrade the disk that hosts the DDB to a high-performing disk storage media.

  • The hardware of the disk that hosts the DDB has errors.

  • You plan to upgrade the disk that hosts the DDB to a high-performing disk storage media and the drives are currently unavailable.

Move the DDB temporarily for a hardware refresh.

Note

If the DDB is on a MediaAgent that is SP14 or a more recent version, you can move the DDB only to a MediaAgent that is the same version or a more recent version. For example, if the source MediaAgent is SP14, you can move the DDB only to a MediaAgent that is SP14 or a more recent version.
