Common Virtual Server Agent Framework
Run an Incremental Backup Job While a Synthetic Full Backup is Running
For Virtual Server Agent subclients, you can run an incremental backup job while a synthetic full backup is running on the same subclient.
For more information, see Synthetic Full Backups FAQ: Can I run an incremental backup job while a synthetic full backup is running?
Amazon
Restore from a Replicated Snapshot Copy
You can perform the following types of restore operations from a replicated snapshot copy, from a different account:
-
Full instance restore
-
Attach the volume to an existing instance
-
Attach the volume to a new instance
-
Restore guest files and folders
For more information, see Replicating Snapshots with IntelliSnap for Amazon.
Azure
Perform Application-Aware Backups of Azure Virtual Machines
You can perform application-aware backups for virtual machines that run under Azure Resource Manager.
This feature is supported for both streaming and IntelliSnap backups. You can perform application-aware backups of Azure VMs from the CommCell Console and the Command Center.
For more information, see the following pages:
-
Application-Aware Backups (Command Center)
-
Application-Aware Backups (CommCell Console)
vCloud Director
Configure VM-Centric Operations for vCloud Director
You can configure the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) for vCloud Director to support VM-centric backup and restore operations using Indexing Version 2.
This feature is available for streaming backup operations performed using the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) with vCloud Director.
For a new Commvault deployment with Service Pack 16 or more recent service packs, Indexing Version 2 is enabled by default, and a new vCloud virtualization client automatically uses Indexing Version 2 to support VM-centric operations. For an existing Commvault deployment, you must enable Indexing Version 2.
For more information, see the following pages:
-
VM-Centric Operations for Virtual Server Agent with vCloud Director (CommCell Console)
VMware
Deploy the Virtual Server Agent on a Windows Server 2019 Machine
For Service Pack 16 and more recent service packs, you can deploy the Virtual Server Agent on a machine running Microsoft Windows Server 2019.
For more information, see System Requirements for Virtual Server Agent with VMware.
Use the NAS Transport Mode for VMware Backup and Restore Operations
The NAS (network-attached storage) transport mode enables the proxy computer to read data directly from the network file server, without going through an ESX host or transferring data over the local area network (LAN).
You can use the NAS transport mode for the following operations:
-
Streaming backups
-
Backup copy operations
-
Restoring full VMs
For more information, see the following pages:
-
Editing VM Group Settings for VMware (Command Center)

NAS Transport (CommCell Console)
VMware Cloud on AWS Supports Live Sync
VMware Cloud on AWS supports Live Sync replication and Live Sync Direct for snapshot-based replication.
For more information, see Support for VMware Cloud on AWS.
Virtual Machine Conversion (Cross-Hypervisor Restores)
Convert VMs from Azure to Amazon
When restoring an Azure virtual machine from a backup, you can restore the virtual machine as an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance or as an Amazon Web Services (AWS) instance that is part of a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).
You can perform conversions from a streaming backup, from a backup copy, or from an auxiliary copy.
For more information, see the following pages:

Converting from Azure to Amazon (CommCell Console)
Convert Virtual Machines from Nutanix AHV to Azure
When restoring a virtual machine from a backup for Nutanix AHV, you can convert the VM to Azure Resource Manager.
This feature can be used to migrate workloads to Azure, or to recover VMs in Azure if the Nutanix AHV deployment is unavailable.
This option is available from the Command Center or from the CommCell Console.
For more information, see:

Converting from Nutanix AHV to Azure (CommCell Console)
Convert Virtual Machines from Oracle VM to Azure
When restoring a virtual machine from a backup for Oracle VM, you can convert the VM to Azure Resource Manager.
This feature can be used to migrate workloads to Azure, or to recover VMs in Azure if the Oracle VM deployment is unavailable.
This option is available from the Command Center or from the CommCell Console.
For more information, see:
