Recalls of Files Archived in Extents

You can recall files that were archived in extents.

Extent-based recalls are helpful if the recalled files are large in size. You can recall the large file in parts and prioritize the recall of parts of that file based on the end-user request.

Extent-based recalls fail if the Index Server is offline. In such cases, you must restart the Client Manager Service (ClMgrS) service on the recall client.

Job Restartability of Recall Operations

When an interrupted extent-based recall operation is resumed, the behavior is different for driver-based and non-driver based stubs:

  • For driver-based stubs, if more than 64 extents are recalled, then the recall operation continues.

  • For non-driver based stubs, the stubs are repaired before the recall operation is resumed.
