Registering the Client Computers that were Behind a Firewall in the Source CommCell Environment

To register the client computers that were behind a firewall on the source CommCell environment, you must configure a network gateway topology. In this configuration, a network gateway server exists between a client group that contains the MediaAgent and CommServe computer and a client group that contains the client computers that are migrated.

Procedure

  1. Install a client computer on the destination CommCell environment to act as the network gateway server.

    For instructions, see Client Installations.

  2. Create the following client computer groups:

    • A client group that contains the CommServe computer and the MediaAgent.

    • A client group that contains all the clients that were behind a firewall on the source CommCell environment.

    • A client group that should contain the network gateway server.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer Group.

  3. Associate the newly created network gateway server to the client group that should contain the network gateway server in the network topology.

For instructions, see Associating or Disassociating Clients.

  4. Create a network gateway topology for the clients groups with the following parameters:

    • Topology Type: Via network gateway

    • Laptops or Servers: The client group that will initiate connections to the network gateway group.

    • DMZ gateways: The client group that contains the network gateway server.

    • Infrastructure machines: The client group that contains all the clients that contain the applications that you want to migrate.

For more information, see Setting Up Network Gateway Connections Using a Predefined Network Topology.

    Note

The only package that you need to install on the network gateway server is the File System core package.

  5. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the network topology that you configured, click Push Network Configuration, and then click OK.

  6. Perform CommCell migration of the network gateway server to the source CommCell environment.

For instructions, see Exporting the Metadata from the Source CommCell Environment.

  7. Log on to the source CommCell environment.

  8. Associate the network gateway server that is imported to the network gateway server client group in the network topology on the source CommCell environment.

  9. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the network topology that you configured, click Push Network Configurations, and then click OK.
