Hyper-V Replication

Replication configuration includes Hyper-V setup and Commvault configuration. You can configure the required Commvault entities individually, or all together using the replication group configuration tool.

Commvault Configuration

Commvault configuration includes the following entities:

  • Hypervisor configurations for the source and destination sites

  • Recovery target for each destination site

  • Replication group for virtual machines or instances that are replicated from the primary site to the secondary site

In addition, you can deploy access nodes in your environment to manage operations and MediaAgents to manage data movement. These entities are needed on the primary and destination sites.

Hyper-V Hypervisor Configuration

For Hyper-V, the Commvault hypervisor configuration represents a Hyper-V node.

The following requirements apply:

  • Verify that the VSA package is installed on the CommServe computer.

  • Verify that the Hyper-V access nodes can communicate with the CommServe computer. If the access nodes reside behind a firewall, register the access nodes to the CommServe computer by installing the VSA package with the required firewall settings on each of the access nodes.

Though you have registered these nodes to the Commserve computer, you must complete the entire procedure to add a hypervisor.

  • You will need the following information to add a hypervisor:

    • The hypervisor can be a Hyper-V cluster, a Hyper-V server in a cluster, or a standalone Hyper-V server.

Be prepared to enter credentials for the Hyper-V server or cluster. The user must belong to the local administrators group for Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 or the Hyper-V administrators group for Hyper-V Server 2012 and later. For a Hyper-V cluster, the user account must have full cluster permissions (Read and Full Control).

    • Also identify one or more nodes on which you will install the VSA to create proxies for backup and restore operations.
