Configuring Air Gap Protect

You can configure a new Air Gap Protect storage in the Command Center. You can configure the cloud service provider, storage class, and MediaAgent settings.

The number of partitions created is determined by the number of DDB MediaAgents selected during configuration:

• 1 MediaAgent selected

  • Two partitions are created on the single MediaAgent.

  • 2 MediaAgents selected

  • Two partitions are created on each MediaAgent, for a total of four partitions.

• 3 to 6 MediaAgents selected

  • A total of six partitions are created and distributed evenly across the selected MediaAgents.

• More than 6 MediaAgents selected

  • The first six MediaAgents are used to create the six partitions.

  • The remaining MediaAgents are assigned the Deduplication Database (DDB) role only.

The software automatically assigns the deduplication database (DDB) path on the MediaAgent without requiring user input.

Before You Begin

Review the Prerequisites needed to configure Air Gap Protect.

Procedure

1. From the Command Center go to Storage > Air Gap Protect in the navigation pane.

   The Air Gap Protect page appears.

2. In the upper right of the page, click Add.

   The Add Air Gap Protect page appears.

   Note

   If you are configuring Air Gap Protect for the first time, then you must accept the End-User License Agreement (EULA) to proceed further. In the Air Gap Protect user agreement dialog box that appears, perform the following steps:

   1. Click the Commvault Terms and Conditions for terms and conditions for using the Commvault software.

      A new page opens in a web browser and displays the information.

   2. In the Air Gap Protect user agreement dialog box, select the check box.

      The check box is unavailable until you click the Commvault Terms and Conditions link and read the agreement.

   3. Click Agree.

      If you click Cancel, Air Gap Protect cannot be configured.

3. In the Name box, type a name for the storage.

4. From the MediaAgents list, select one or more MediaAgents to use for data backup and restore.

5. To add a DDB MediaAgent, click the Add icon.

   The Install MediaAgent dialog box appears.

   For instructions to add a MediaAgent, see Installing a MediaAgent.

6. From the Storage type list, select the required cloud storage.

   The following storage types are supported:

   • Microsoft Azure storage

   • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage

   • Amazon S3

   • Google Cloud Storage

   Note

   The storage type and storage class lists are populated as per the Air Gap Protect licenses configured.

7. From the Storage class list, select the appropriate storage class for the cloud storage.

   The following storage classes are supported:

   • Frequent access

   • Infrequent access

8. Verify that the Use Deduplication toggle is enabled to use deduplication for data stored in the cloud storage.

9. From the DDB MediaAgent list, select one or more MediaAgents to use for deduplication.

10. Add the following information:

    • From the MediaAgent list, select the MediaAgent that will be used to access the deduplication DB location.

    • From the Select a Deduplication DB location list, browse and select the path of the deduplication database (DDB).

    • Click Add.

11. Click Save in the Add Air Gap Protect page.

Result

The Air Gap Protect storage will be saved and listed in the Air Gap Protect page. From the navigation pane , click Storage > Air Gap Protect and then click the Air Gap Protect, to view the details associated with the storage.
