Create Air Gap Protect storage

Air Gap Protect storage isolates your backup data in a secure, time-based container that prevents unauthorized access and deletion. You create storage for a specific copy of a backup, which is specified in a backup plan.

Requirements
  • You must configure the required outbound connections.
  • To use Azure Private Link or AWS PrivateLink, you must configure it.
  • For Air Gap Protect storage in AWS, OCI, or Google Cloud, you must deploy a MediaAgent in the same cloud region as the Air Gap Protect storage. This is required for defragmentation jobs.
  • For Air Gap Protect storage in Azure, the MediaAgent does not need to be deployed in Azure. You can use an on-premises MediaAgent or HyperScale X deployment if network connectivity to the Air Gap Protect storage is available.

To create Air Gap Protect storage, follow these steps:

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > Storage > Air Gap Protect.

  2. In the upper-right area of the page, click Add.

  3. Enter a name for the storage.

  4. Select or create a MediaAgent that's in the same location (region) you select for the storage.

  5. Select the storage type, class, and location (region).

    • AGP Frequent access: Use for backups that need regular or rapid restores, such as databases and VMs. Only AGP Frequent access can be used as an auxiliary copy source.
    • AGP Infrequent access: Use for backups that are rarely restored (a 30-day minimum is required), such as compliance archives and historical project data.
    • AGP Archive: Use for data that is no longer actively used in daily operations but must remain available for recovery, if required, for regulatory or compliance purposes.
  6. Leave Use deduplication enabled and select a MediaAgent for the deduplication database (DDB) that's in the same location (region) you select for the storage.

  7. Click Save.
