Getting Started with S3 Vault

Getting started with S3 Vault includes verifying system requirements, creating an S3 endpoint, creating an S3 Vault, configuring user access for the S3 Vault, and then performing a test put-object and get-object client operations.

The following components comprise an S3 Vault environment:

  • A deduplication-enabled plan for the S3 Vault. For more information about creating a plan, see Creating a Backup Plan.

  • An S3 endpoint supporting the S3-compatible protocol is enabled on all MediaAgents of the plan. To host an S3 Vault, the plan must include at least one Linux MediaAgent.

  • An S3 Vault is an S3-compatible storage interface integrated with Commvault backup plans. It functions as an S3 bucket in standard S3 client operations, such as put-object and get-object.

Procedure

  1. Verify the system requirements.

  2. Backup admin configuration.

Hosting an S3 endpoint is typically managed by backup, infrastructure, or MSP administrators who install, maintain, and host the endpoints for use by workload and application administrators.

    1. Create an S3 endpoint.
  3. Workload admin configuration.

Creating S3 vaults, creating/associating S3 users, and using S3 Vaults for backup and restore are typically performed by workload and application administrators.

    1. Create an S3 Vault.

    2. Get S3 Vault Keys.

    3. Use S3 Vault.
