Installing Antivirus or Third Party Monitoring Tools on HyperScale X

Disclaimer

Commvault's HyperScale X is a scale-out platform dedicated to data protection. Commvault supports the software stack consisting of the operating system and HyperScale software on the Commvault HyperScale X nodes and is responsible for upgrades pertaining to these components. Upgrades are performed through a centralized process from the CommServe.

It is beyond the scope of Commvault to manage third-party software, including antivirus tools and hardware monitoring utilities. If you choose to install any third-party software on HyperScale nodes, consider the following:

  • Responsibility: You are solely responsible for updating, maintaining, and managing any antivirus or third-party monitoring tools installed on the nodes.

  • Performance Impact: Third-party software may adversely affect the performance of HyperScale nodes.

  • Stability and Compatibility Risks:

    • Installing third-party monitoring tools with kernel extensions or additional RPM dependencies (other than those shipped as part of the HyperScale image) could cause system instability.

    • Such tools may also prevent the operating system on the nodes from being updated.

    • If these issues occur, the third-party tools must be uninstalled.

  • Data Consistency and Resiliency Risks: System crashes resulting from third-party tools may cause data consistency issues and could affect node availability, impacting resiliency requirements.

  • Software Upgrade Compatibility: Third-party software configurations may be affected by HyperScale software upgrades. It is essential to validate all antivirus and third-party tool functionalities after a Commvault software upgrade.
