Settings for a Google Cloud hypervisor include the authentication method, access nodes, security settings, and tags.
Go to the Hypervisor
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtual machines.
The Overview page appears.
-
On the Hypervisor tab, click the hypervisor.
The hypervisor page appears.
Modify the Authentication Method
When you modify an existing hypervisor, you can choose one of the following authentication methods:
-
Use the service account associated with the access node.
-
Use the Credential Manager.
-
Specify a service account key file (JSON).
Procedure
-
On the Overview tab, in the General section, click the edit button
.The Edit hypervisor details dialog box appears.
-
Specify one of the following authentication methods:
-
To authenticate using the service account attached to the Access Node, enable the Use the service account associated with the access node toggle.
Note:
-
If this option is enabled, it will be used automatically.
-
If this option is disabled, then the Credential Manager option appears where you can add your credentials. For information about adding credentials, see Configuring Backups for Google Cloud Instances.
-
-
To authenticate the hypervisor and add the credential, enable the Use the Credential Manager toggle.
Note:
-
This option appears only if the Use the service account associated with the access node is disabled.
-
If the Use the Credential Manager is also disabled, then you can specify the service account key file.
-
-
Specify a service account Key Type (JSON). This option is used when neither the access node's service account nor the Credential Manager is available.
-
For JSON, select the JSON file for service account authentication that you downloaded when you created the Google Cloud service account for the associated project.
Note:
When creating a new Google Cloud hypervisor, you must use a JSON key file for authentication. Other options are not supported during creation.

Click Save.
View Recovery Points
On the Overview tab, the Recovery points section shows the backups that are available by date. For information about restores, see Restores for Google Cloud.
Disable Backups
When you disable backups, the hypervisor is excluded from SLA calculations.
-
On Configuration tab, in the Activity Control section, move the Data backup toggle key to the left.
An Enable after a delay link appears.
-
To enable backups again after a delay, click the Enable after a delay link, and then enter the amount of time to delay.
Disable Restores
If you disable restores, applications and other data cannot be restored.
-
On Configuration tab, in the Activity Control section, move the Data restores toggle key to the left.
An Enable after a delay link appears.
-
To enable restores again after a delay, click the Enable after a delay link, and then enter the amount of time to delay.
Specify a Preferred Access Node for Guest File Restores
When you browse files from a backup of a Linux Google Cloud instance, by default, the Commvault software automatically selects the access node to mount the files. To override the default behavior for this hypervisor and specify an access node to mount the files, use the Preferred node for guest file restores setting.
-
On Configuration tab, in the Options section, for Preferred node for guest file restores, click the edit button
.The Edit file recovery dialog box appears.
-
Select the access node.
-
Click Save.
Specify a Time Zone
The default time zone for the hypervisor is the time zone of the CommServe server. You can specify a different time zone for the hypervisor.
If you specify a time zone for the hypervisor and for a VM group, the Commvault uses the time zone of the VM group.
- On Configuration tab, in the Options section, for Time zone, click the edit button
, and then select the time zone.
Block Cross-Region Backups
The most cost-effective way to protect Google Cloud VMs that reside in multiple regions is to create a multi-region backup plan, assign the backup plan to your VM groups, and then block cross-region backups for your hypervisors (by enabling the Restrict cross-region backups toggle key).
For information, see Configuring Multi-Region Backups for Google Cloud VMs.
Enable Snapshot Backups
You can enable snapshot backups for the VM groups that are associated with the hypervisor.
- On Configuration tab, in the Snapshot management section, move the Enable snap backup toggle key to the right.
Select Different Access Nodes
The access node must be present on Google Cloud. You can designate one access node to back up instances from multiple projects (to which access rights are provided in your Google Cloud service account). For faster backups and restores, designate at least one access node for every Google Cloud region.
For requirements for Google Cloud access nodes, see System Requirements for Protecting Google Cloud Instances.
-
On Configuration tab, in the Access nodes section, click Actions, and then select Edit.
The Edit access nodes dialog box appears.
-
Select the access node groups or access nodes to use for the hypervisor.
-
Click Save.
To replace the same access node in multiple hypervisors, see Replacing Infrastructure Nodes.
Assign Roles to Users or User Groups
To allow a user or user group to perform data management operations on the hypervisor, create a security association between the user or user group and one of the following pre-defined roles:
-
View: Provide read-only access to application group configuration, job history, and reporting data
-
VM End User: Provide self-service backup, recover both in-place and out-of-place
Procedure
-
On the Configuration tab, in the Security section, click the edit button
.The Security dialog box appears.
-
On the Associations tab, enter the name of the user or user group, select the role to assign, and then click Add.
-
Click Save.

Assign Owners and Permissions
You can specify owners and permissions for the hypervisor.
-
On the Configuration tab, in the Security section, click the edit button
.The Security dialog box appears.
-
On the Owners tab, enter the name of the user or user group to assign as an owner.
-
Under Permissions, select the permissions to give to the owner.
-
Click Save.
Modify Tags
If you have the Tag Management permission, you can create and apply tags to the hypervisor. A tag is a key and an optional value that you can use to categorize entities such as hypervisors and VM groups. Tags are useful for managing and reporting in large environments.
-
On Configuration tab, in the Tags section, click the edit button
.The Manage tags dialog box appears.
-
In Tag name, enter a name for the tag.
-
To assign a value, in Tag value, enter the value.
-
Click Save.
