Downloading Media Explorer for Windows

Download and open the Media Explorer tool for Windows to recover disaster recovery (DR) data from tape or disk storage.

Before You Begin

  • Verify that the computer where you will use the software meets the minimum requirements specified in Media Explorer: System Requirements.

  • You must have an user account on the Cloud Services website. To create a user account, register your CommServe computer.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Commvault Store.

  2. Click Download on the Media Explorer tile.

  3. Select the required platform version of the tool (Windows-x64 or Windows-x86), and then click Download.

  4. Double-click CvMediaExplorerTool.exe (or CVToolMediaExplorerWin 32.exe).

    Note

    The package self-extracts to the current folder. If a destination is requested, record the path.

  5. After the self-extraction completes, navigate to the Base folder.

  6. Double-click MediaExplorer.exe to open the application.

Installing Media Explorer for Linux

You can download and set up the Media Explorer tool on a Linux machine to perform disaster recovery restores when the CommServe is down.

Before You Begin

For deduplicated restores, run Media Explorer on the MediaAgent associated with the DDB.

Procedure

  1. Download the Media Explorer tar file from Commvault Store.
  2. Extract the file.
  3. Navigate to the Base Folder inside the Extracted directory.
  4. Run ./me to launch the tool.
