Managing the Licensing Server

Impact of Failover on Licensing Server

When the Licensing Server is setup in the CommServe computer, the Licensing Server will not be impacted after a failover.

If the Licensing Server is setup in a remote computer, once again, the Licensing Server will not be impacted after a failover, provided the currently active production CommServe host is able to communicate with the remote Licensing Server.

Disaster Recovery and Licensing Server

Like the other Commvault DB servers, the Licensing Server is protected by the SQL client. Hence, in a disaster recovery scenario it is restored like any other Commvault DB server which is protected with SQL client - the server is rebuilt and the database restored. If necessary, follow the steps described in Setting Up a Licensing Server for a Multi-CommCell Environment to bring back the Licensing server after a rebuild.

However, the Licensing Server must be rebuilt and brought back online within 5 days. After 5 day messages about Licensing in the Child CommServe will be sent out, and you may be forced to click the Resume Operations button multiple times. If this situation arises, or if you are unable to bring back the Licensing Server online within 5 days, contact Commvault Customer Support.
