Commvault Flex is designed for organizations with large-scale, data-intensive workloads requiring high performance and flexible storage architecture. Unlike integrated appliance platforms, Flex connects to external storage platforms, enabling customers to leverage existing storage investments while achieving multi-petabyte scale.
Flex offers two deployment modes:
- Appliance – a fully integrated and fully supported deployment model
- Open – a compute-only deployment model that works with customer-selected storage infrastructure

Appliance Deployment Mode
Validated hardware with certified storage (Everpure, VAST, NetApp, HPE, Hitachi). Includes Remote Installation Assistance (RIA) and full Commvault support. Unlike Grid Appliance, hardware can be procured from Arrow or directly.
Open Deployment Mode
Open server, open storage, open protocol. Maximum flexibility. Customers select hardware that meets supported specifications and can use existing storage infrastructure. Software-only support is provided by Commvault. This deployment model is ideal for organizations with existing infrastructure investments.
Air Gap
Isolated Recovery for Cyber Resilience
Air Gap provides a logically isolated environment designed to protect backup data from ransomware and cyber threats. Immutable and isolated copies of critical data are maintained to enable rapid recovery following a cyberattack.
