HyperScale Edge Autodocking Deployment

HyperScale Edge deployment uses a Device Registration–first model.

Before the Edge node is fully installed, you create a Device Registration entry in the Commvault Cloud. This entry defines:

  • The static IP address the Edge node will use after registration
  • The hardware serial number of the Edge node.
  • The storage pool name to be created automatically

During installation, the Edge node establishes network connectivity, authenticates with the Commvault Cloud using a verification code, and then automatically completes registration and configuration.

HyperScale Edge Autodocking solution supports the following deployment workflows for creating a HyperScale Edge storage pool during node deployment:

  • Standard configuration (Automated / DHCP-based)

Use this workflow when DHCP is available and no custom network configuration is required. After the Edge server is powered on and the user logs in, the system automatically configures the network using DHCP, communicates with the Commvault Cloud, and requests authentication. When the user authenticates, the installation proceeds automatically and completes the storage pool creation.

  • Advanced configuration (Manual network setup)

Use this workflow when DHCP is unavailable or when custom networking is required, such as multiple uplinks, bonding, or VLANs. In this case, the user must manually configure the network on the Edge server. After the network configuration is completed and the authentication is completed, the installation resumes and completes the registration and storage pool creation.

Both workflows use Device Registration to securely authenticate the Edge node with the Commvault Cloud and automate the remaining installation steps.
