Restore Hyper-V VMs to different virtualization platforms or cloud environments for workload migration, disaster recovery, or platform consolidation.
Supported destinations
You can restore Hyper-V VMs to:
-
VMware vSphere: Migrate VMs to VMware infrastructure
-
AWS EC2: Migrate VMs to Amazon Web Services cloud
-
Microsoft Azure: Migrate VMs to Azure cloud
-
Azure Stack: Migrate VMs to Azure Stack environments
Restore to a different platform
Use the out-of-place restore option to migrate VMs across platforms:
-
Navigate to Protect > Virtualization > VM groups tab.
-
Select the VM and click the action button.
-
Click Restore.
-
Click Full virtual machine.
-
Select the VMs to restore and click Restore.
-
On the Restore options page:
-
For Restore type, select Out of place.
-
For Destination, select the target platform (VMware, AWS, Azure, or Azure Stack).
-
Select the destination hypervisor or cloud account.
-
Configure VM details for the destination platform (name, network, storage).
-
Customize network settings if needed to prevent IP conflicts.
-
-
Click Submit.
The restore operation converts the Hyper-V VM format to the destination platform's native format and registers the VM in the target environment.
Use cases
Disaster recovery
Restore Hyper-V VMs to cloud platforms when on-premises infrastructure is unavailable.
Cloud migration
Move workloads from on-premises Hyper-V to cloud platforms for modernization or cost optimization.
Platform consolidation
Migrate VMs from Hyper-V to VMware or other platforms during infrastructure consolidation projects.
