Restoring a Volume Out of Place Using Volume Copy (Block-Level Backup)

You can perform an out-of-place volume-level restore from a volume-level backup created using Volume copy (block-level backup). The operation restores the entire volume to a different destination disk.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. On the Instances tab, click the SQL instance associated with the volume copy (block-level backup).

  3. In the Recovery points section, click Restore.

    The Backup content page appears.

  4. Select the databases that you want to restore, and then click Volume Restore.

    The Restore option page appears.

  5. On the Out of place tab, do the following:

    1. From the Restore type list, select Cross instance restore to restore the selected data from the source SQL instance to a different SQL instance.

    2. From the Destination server list, select the destination SQL instance.

    3. From the Destination instance list, select the SQL instance to which you want to restore the data.

    4. To edit the database volume-level restore, click Edit.

      The Edit database options page appears.

      • To restore the Source volume to a new path, in the Destination volume box, type the full path name, or use the browse button Browse_Icon_Restore.

      • To restore Databases to a new path, in the Destination database box, type the full path name, or use the browse button Browse_Icon_Restore.

  6. Under Additional options, for Recovery types, enter the following options:

    1. In the Number of Streams field, specify the number of parallel data streams to use for the restore.

    2. In the Pre or Post options section, configure any commands or scripts to run:

      • Pre options run before the restore starts.

      • Post options run after the restore completes.

    3. In the Data Path section, select the MediaAgent and storage resources to use for data transfer during the restore.

    4. In the Start Up options section, choose when to start the restore job:

      • Run the job immediately, or

      • Schedule the job to run at a later time.

  7. Click Submit.
