Getting Started with Unified Data Vault for Tenants

Create Unified Data Vaults to back up your applications using S3-compatible APIs with built-in deduplication and compression.

Prerequisites

  • F&O SKU (Files and Objects)

  • Storage SKU (Bundled Storage or Air Gap Protect)

Setup Steps

  1. Create Server Plan - Configure a deduplication-enabled plan with your storage type. See Creating a Server Plan.

    • For AGP (SaaS): Select Air Gap Protect storage and choose a Region. Commvault automatically provisions hosted MediaAgent infrastructure as the S3 endpoint — no manual setup required.

    • For Bundled Storage or BYOS: Ensure a Linux MediaAgent is deployed in the same region as your workloads.

  2. Create Vault - Set up Unified Data Vault. See Creating a Unified Data Vault.

  3. Generate Access Keys - Create access keys for authentication. See Managing Access Keys.

  4. Configure Application - Point your backup tool to the S3 endpoint with these parameters:

    • S3_ENDPOINT - Navigate to Manage > Infrastructure > Unified Data Vault > [bucket name] and copy endpoint URL from S3 endpoints section

    • AWS_ACCESS_KEY / AWS_SECRET_KEY - Generate access keys for the S3 Vault. See Access Key Management.

    • BUCKET - The S3 vault name

  5. Back Up Data - Start backing up using standard S3 APIs. See Supported APIs.
