Data Integrity Validation

Data integrity and recoverability is an absolute requirement of any backup system. Making sure that the backup data remains unchanged and available at all times is crucial for successful restorability.

Commvault provides the following configurable features to ensure data integrity:

Furthermore, to enhance data integrity and availability, data verification mechanisms provided by storage vendors (disk array, standalone tape drives and libraries, cloud storage) can be leveraged.

For example, disk libraries can be configured to take advantage of high availability and fault tolerant architectures such as RAID - examples RAID 5, 6, 50, 60. Tape drives also provide data integrity checking features such as Error Correction Code (ECC) and Checksums, which is validated automatically on data reads. Similarly, cloud storage vendors provide data integrity guarantees depending on quality of service defined in SLA's. All these mechanisms can be leveraged and tied together to increase data reliability.
