Getting Started with the Blackout Window

You can configure a blackout window rule that prevents all full data management operations from running between 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, if all users in your CommCell environment tend to be active during those hours.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Console ribbon, on Home tab, click Control Panel.

  2. Under the Schedule section, click Blackout Window.

The Blackout Window dialog box appears.

    Note

To access the Blackout Window at any level below the CommServe level, right-click the appropriate entity, and then click All Tasks > Blackout Window.

  3. Click Add.

The Operation Rule Details dialog box appears.

  4. In the Name box, enter a name for the rule.

  5. Under Operations, select the operation that will not run.

  6. Under Do not run intervals, define an interval:

    1. Optional: Select a start and end date during which the operation will not run.

For example, you can define a six month period during which the operation will not run.

    2. Click Add.

The Do not run time interval dialog box appears.

    3. Add a time interval:

      • Under Recurrence, select the days of the week the operation will not run.

      • Under Duration, select the Start Time and the End Time during which the operation will not run.

  7. Click OK.

  8. To skip a scheduled job, select the Do not submit job check box.

    Note

If the Do not submit job check box is selected and an interactive job is submitted, the Commvault software queues the job during the blackout window.

  9. Click OK.

  10. In the Blackout Window dialog box, verify that your new rule has been added.
