Help for Global Filters

Use Global Filters from Master CommCell

Select this check box to apply global filters inherited from the master CommCell. For information on populating the Master CommCell Global Filters list, see Enable Global Filters from a Master CommCell.

For each subclient, the Include Global Filters setting determines how global filters are applied:

• By default, new subclients use the Use Cell level policy setting; global filters are applied only if they are enabled at the CommCell level.

• If the subclient selects OFF, global filters are ignored.

• If the subclient selects ON, global filters are applied even if they are not enabled at the CommCell level.

Use Global Filters on all SubClients

Select this check box to enable the exclusions defined on this page for all subclients in the CommCell.

For each subclient, the Include Global Filters setting determines how global filters are applied:

• By default, new subclients use the Use Cell level policy setting; global filters are applied only if they are enabled at the CommCell level.

• If the subclient selects OFF, global filters are ignored.

• If the subclient selects ON, global filters are applied even if they are not enabled at the CommCell level.

Global Filters Category

Select one of the following values to define exclusions for a particular type of backup agent:

• Windows Filters

  Use for backup exclusions on Windows file systems.

• Windows File Archiver Filters

  Use for archive exclusions on Windows file systems.

• IBM i Filters

  Use this to exclude folders and files from IBM i file system backups.

• OpenVMS Filters

  Use for backup exclusions on OpenVMS.

• Unix Filters

  Use for backup exclusions on Unix, Linux, and Macintosh file systems.

• Netware Filters

  Use this to exclude folders and files from Netware file system backups.

• Exchange Mailbox Filters

  Use to exclude Exchange folders from backups.

• Exchange Compliance Archiver Filters

  Use to exclude Exchange folders from compliance archiving.

• Content Indexing Filters

  Use to exclude specified file types from content indexing. After selecting an agent, click Recommended Filters to select specific categories or file extensions to be excluded.

• NAS Agent Filters

  Use to specify backup exclusions for the NAS Agent subclients.

  Notes:

  • Only certain NAS vendors support filters.

  • Each supported vendor has different guidelines for formatting filters. When adding a filter that will be applied across different NAS vendors, the filter must be valid for each NAS vendor.

Exclude Global Filters

After selecting the agent type in the Global Filters Category list, click Add or Browse to create an exclusion, Modify to edit an existing exclusion, or Delete to remove an exclusion.

Master CommCell Global Filter

Displays global filters inherited from the master CommCell. For information on populating the Master CommCell Global Filters list, see Enable Global Filters from a Master CommCell.

Add

Click to enter an absolute file path or a pattern with wildcards; any files or folders that match the pattern are excluded.

Modify

Select an existing entry and click Modify to edit the path for the entry.

Browse

Click to locate and select a file or folder. (Not applicable for Exchange mailbox, content indexing, or virtual server exclusions.)

Delete

Click to remove an existing entry.

Recommended Filters

Click to select categories or file extensions to be excluded. (Only applicable for Content Indexing Filters.)
