Sharing Data Cube Data Sources with other Users

After you connect to a data source with Data Cube, you can share your data sources with other users. You can also assign user permissions to control which users have the ability to view and edit shared data sources.

Only the data source owner can permanently delete a data source.

Before You Begin

  • You must connect to at least one data source. See Connect to Data Sources.

  • You can share data sources with any users or user groups that are registered in the CommCell Console and are associated to you. To view a shared data source, the shared user or user groups must have access to the Web Console.

Procedure

  1. In a Web browser, log in to the Web Console and then click Analytics.

  2. In the left pane, click the connector group to view the data sources for that connector.

  3. On the Data Sources (connector) page, in the box of the data source that you want to share, click Configuration.

    The data source page appears.

  4. In the upper right of the Sharing Details section, click Share.

The Share Data Source dialog box appears.

  5. Enter the user entity with whom you want to share the data source.

You can enter user names, email addresses, or user group names as a comma-separated list. Entering multiple users will share the data source with the same level of permissions.

  6. To the right of the user field, click the list and select the permissions that you want the user entity to have on the shared data source.

    • To assign permission to view the data source in Data Cube, select View.

      Note

Users assigned only the View permission are unable to crawl or schedule crawls of the shared data source.

    • To assign permission to edit the data source configurations, select Edit.

  7. To share data source handlers with the user:

    1. Select the Share Handlers check box.

    2. Click the list under Share Handlers and select the handler names that you want to share with the added users.

  8. When you are finished, click Share.

  9. To share the data source with users who require different levels of permissions, repeat this procedure.

Results

After the data source is shared, you can manage how you share:

  • To change the permissions assigned to a user, under Sharing Details > Action, click the edit button for the user and select new permissions.

  • To stop sharing a data source with a user, under Sharing Details > Action, click X for the user who you want to remove.

  • To stop sharing the data source with all users, under Sharing Details, click Stop Sharing.
