Transitioning from a Version 10 Classic Archiver Agent to a Version 11 File Archiver Agent

If you have been using the classic archiver agent to protect your data, then we recommend that you transition to the file archiving solution.

After you transition to file archiving, you can continue to use the classic archiver agent to recover data that was archived using that agent. However, you cannot use the classic archiver agent to perform archiving operations.

Note

If you want to continue to use the classic archiver agent for archiving and recovery, you cannot upgrade the client to version 11 software.

Procedure

  1. On the version 10 client, disable archiving for the classic archiver agent.

  2. Deconfigure the classic archiver agent.

For instructions, see Deconfiguring Agents and Releasing a License (Deconfiguration) in the version 10 documentation.

    Note

    • Verify that you release the license for the classic archiver agent only at the agent level. Do not uninstall the client.

    • Do not delete the client or the subclient.

    • If you have a client configured with the classic archiver agent, clear the Enable for archiving check box, and then select the check box after the upgrade completes.

  3. Disable data aging on the client.

For instructions, see Disable Data Aging on the Client.

  4. Upgrade the version 10 client to version 11.

    For instructions, see Upgrades.

  5. After the upgrade operation finishes, from the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client.

  6. Right-click File System, and then click Properties.

The File System Properties dialog box appears.

  7. Select the Enable for archiving check box.

    Note

You can perform recall operations of Hitachi NAS (BlueArc) and Celerra archiver stubs by using a proxy computer.

  8. On the version 11 client, configure archiving with the same subclient name, and then verify that the contents, filters, and exceptions for the subclient are same as the subclient of the classic archiver agent. For instructions, see the following in the version 11 documentation:

  9. Associate the storage policy to the subclient.

For instructions, see Associating Subclient to a Different Storage policy.

  10. Run an archive operation. For instructions, see one of the following:

  11. Dissociate the backup and restore schedules from the classic archiver agent and associate them with file archiver agent:

    1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Policies > Schedule Policies.

    2. From the Schedule Policies pane on the right, right-click the schedule_policy, and then click Edit.

    3. On the Associations tab, click the Edit tab.

    4. Clear the check box for Traditional Archiver Agent.

    5. Select the check box for Archiver Agent.
