Here are the hardware and software requirements for using HCI in a Hedvig environment.
-
512 GB RAM is the minimum requirement for the host. Storage must be attached to different controllers, for example:
-
1 storage controller connected to 2 disks, and another storage controller connected to disks on a backplane (typically 12 to 24 disks)
-
1 or more NVMe devices onboard, and 1 storage controller connected to disks on a backplane (typically 12-24 disks). For performance setups, 2 NVMe devices, each about 800 GB, are required.
-
-
The storage controller connected to the backplane must be configured as a passthrough PCIe device on the host and must be connected to the Hedvig storage VM.
-
The storage controller connected to the 2 disks (or NVMe devices) must be about 500 GB.The NVMe device must be presented as a datastore, which is used as cache for the Hedvig Storage Proxy VMs.
-
A vCenter server should be deployed on local storage to allow for easier deployment.
-
The cvm.ova, node.ova, and deploy.ova files must be downloaded from the Commvault store to the workstation.
-
The workstation must have the
ovftool_hedvig
tool and thegovc
utility, as described in the following sections.-
The ovftool_hedvig.sh file is in /usr/local/hedvig/config/scripts/ovftool on the deployment server.
-
Source code and binary releases for the
govc
utility are available in the VMware GitHub govmomi site.
