SAP Archive Link Migration

Applies To: SAP Archive Link clients with V10 or V11 SP6 and earlier versions of the software.

The SAP Archive Link Migration is a standalone utility provided by Commvault to upgrade the SAP Archive Link storage repository from the existing PostgreSQL database to the ObjectStore. Using the utility, you can migrate the contents and index information stored in the old storage repository (UNIX file system and PostgreSQL database) to the new ObjectStore repository.

Key Features

  • Performs an upgrade conversion that is used only once during the transition from V11SP6 or earlier versions to V11 SP8 or later service pack.

  • Does not interrupt the ongoing backups from the SAP Archiving software, until the migration is complete.

  • Provides minimum downtime for the SAP Archive Link agent, depending on the size of data for migration.

How Does it Work

Initially, the user creates a configuration XML file that contains connection details for the old PostgreSQL database and information on the ObjectStore client. The utility maintains a log of the migration operations in the software installation path log files location.

The migration runs in multiple phases. In each phase, the utility migrates a subset of the contents and index to the ObjectStore. The first migration phase usually takes longer time to complete, while the subsequent phases are shorter and takes lesser time. During the migration, the utility maintains a table in the PostgreSQL database to track the individual migration status. When the number of files to be migrated is minimum, the user will temporally disable the connection between the SAP Archiving software and the old SAP Archive Link agent, back up the files, migrate the remaining files, and then commits the migration operation. During the commit operation, the ObjectStore user obtains the ownership of the migrated files.
