This topic describes the high-level steps that first-time users must follow to set up the archiving feature in the Command Center.
Step 1: Install the Commvault Software
Install the File System package on your share access node. A share access node is a computer that has access to the network shares and is used for live scan and archive operations.
For NFS share, you must mount the NFS share on a computer where the UNIX file system agent package is installed.
For IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) and Lustre, install the File System package on your data access node.
For Hadoop (HDFS), install the Hadoop package on your data access node.
Verify that the access nodes have minimum hardware requirements as shown in the following table:

Step 2: Log On to the Command Center
Obtain the following information from your backup administrator:

If Command Center is not set up in your CommCell environment, contact your backup administrator to deploy Command Center. For more information, see Setting Up the Command Center.
Step 3: Verify System Requirements for Archiving

Step 4: Create an Archive Plan
You must create an archive plan to start archiving your data on the file server. For more information, see Create An Archive Plan.
Step 5: Adding a File Server
You can add a new file server to the Command Center or configure an existing file server in the Command Center. For more information, see Adding File Servers in the Command Center.
Step 6: Creating a New Archive Set
Archive sets are logical groupings of subclients that contain data to be archived. You can create user-defined archive sets. For more information, see Creating a New Archive Set.
Step 7: Creating a New Subclient for Archiving
Archiving subclients are logical containers of data to be archived. When you create an archive set, a default subclient is automatically created. The default subclient contains the data, plan, filters, and exceptions that you added when you created the archive set.
You can create additional user-defined subclients to manage specific data. For more information, see Creating a New Subclient for Archiving.
Step 8: Performing an Archiving Operation
When you run an archive operation, the files that meet the archiving rules are stubbed. For more information, see Performing An Archive Operation.
Step 9: Accessing Your Archived Data
You can recall your archived data from any computer other than a computer used as a data access node. For more information, see Accessing Your Archived Data.
