Network Router in the Cloud for Laptop Solutions: Setting Up the Commvault Network Gateway

To set up the Commvault network gateway, you must create and configure a placeholder for the network gateway computer, and then install the Commvault software on the network gateway.

The Commvault network gateway located in the cloud will communicate with the CommServe computer through tunnel connections that are initiated by the CommServe computer.

Before You Begin

Procedure

  1. Create the placeholder client for the network gateway as follows:

    1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the Client Computers node, and then click New Client > File System > [Windows or Unix].

The New Windows Client windows appears.

    2. Enter a Client Name and Host Name for the network gateway computer. These details will also be used during your Commvault network gateway installation.

    3. Click Next.

    4. Confirm the information shown under Summary, and then click Finish.

  2. Add the placeholder client to the network gateway client group that you specified in the network topology, as follows:

    1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computer Groups, right-click the network_gateway_client_group, and then click Properties.

      The Properties dialog box appears.

    2. Select the placeholder client from the All clients list, click Include >, and then click OK.

  3. Add the CommServe computer and the required MediaAgents to the trusted client group that you specified in the network topology, as follows:

    1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computer Groups, right-click the trusted_client_group, and then click Properties.

      The Properties dialog box appears.

    2. Select the CommServe computer and the required MediaAgents from the All clients list, click Include >, and then click OK.

  4. Push the network configuration on the CommServe and MediaAgent computers.

For example, to push the network configuration on the CommServe computer, do the following:

    1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe, and then click All Tasks > Push Network Configuration.

      The Warning dialog box appears.

    2. Click Continue.

A notification appears indicating that the push network configuration operation was successful.

    3. Click OK.

  5. Install the Commvault software on the network gateway computer. We recommend that you install the File System Agent.

During the installation, you must specify a local HTTP or HTTPS port number that can be used by the CommServe computer to open tunnel connections towards the network gateway. For firewall instructions during the installation, see Setting Up Direct Connections from the CommServe Computer to the Client.
