The POD volumes and the associated snapshots are synchronously replicated between the storage arrays in the Purity ActiveCluster configuration. The Active/Active Asynchronous replication feature allows you to asynchronously replicate the snapshots of POD volumes to a third Pure array that we refer as replication target array. The replication is performed inline with the snap backup. This feature is also referred to as Pure 3DC.
When you configure the Active/Active Asynchronous replication feature in the Commvault software, the software allows you to access snapshots from any of the arrays in the Active/Active Asynchronous replication configuration. For the mount operations that are part of a restore operation, a backup copy operation, or a Live Browse operation, you can select snapshot from any of the arrays.
The following diagram depicts the functionality of the Active/Active Asynchronous replication feature.
Without fan-out feature, you can replicate the snapshots from DC1 to DC4 and DC2 to DC4.
Key Features
The key feature of the Pure Storage FlashArray active/active asynchronous replication feature is that you can create multiple vault/replica copies using the same server plan. For more information, see Pure Storage Array Replication Feature with Fan-Out Support
Considerations
-
The revert operation is not supported.
-
For the Microsoft Hyper-V agent, the snapshots replicated on the replication target array are crash-consistent, and the snapshots on arrays in ActiveCluster are application consistent.
-
For replication to the replication target array, replication is performed only if the subclient on which you run the snapshot operation is associated with the storage policy associated with the replica copy.
-
For the arrays in ActiveCluster configuration, subclients cannot have a mix of POD and non-POD volumes.
-
For the arrays in ActiveCluster configuration, subclients cannot have volumes from multiple POD containers.
