For disks that are replicated to another disk in real-time (using either hardware replication or any third-party replication tools), the mount paths from both the primary and replicated disks must be configured as a disk library. In such a configuration, the data written by the primary MediaAgent will have read-write access, while the MediaAgent accessing the replica will have read-only access. Read-only operations (such as restores, data verification, etc.) can be performed from the replica for load balancing purposes.
Note
Primary and replica mount paths can be configured using a supported MediaAgent, either as a local or network drive. (For more information about supported MediaAgent, see MediaAgent: System Requirements.)
Procedure
-
Create a disk library on a primary MediaAgent as described in Creating a Disk Library.
-
Configure a MediaAgent with read-only access to the replica as described in Configuring the Replica With Read-Only Access.
-
Backup your data to this disk library. For more information on how to run backups, see the documentation for the specific agent.
-
Replicate the backed up data from the source location using either hardware replication or any third-party software to the destination location. (Refer to the documentation associated with the tool for information on how to replicate the data.)
-
Perform read operations from the replica using the read-only MediaAgent as follows: -
To restore data, select the read-only MediaAgent as the destination MediaAgent on the Advanced Options tab of the Restore Options dialog box. For more information, see Restore Data Using a Specific Library, MediaAgent, Drive Pool, and Drive.
-
To run data verification: -
Select the jobs for verification as described in Pick a Job for Data Verification.
-
Run a data verification job and ensuring that the read-only MediaAgent is selected as the destination, from the Select Source MediaAgent list on the Data Verification dialog box. For more information, see Manage Data Verification Operation.
