To perform a hardware refresh, you can move the partitions of an active deduplication database (DDB) or a sealed DDB on a MediaAgent to a temporary location.
Before You Begin

Verify that no DDB backup operations or DDB reconstruction operations are running for the storage policy copy that is associated with the DDB that you want to move.

Verify that adequate space is available on the temporary location and on the new disk that hosts the DDB.
Procedure

Log on to the MediaAgent computer that hosts the DDB.

Stop all MediaAgent services.

Verify that the SIDB process is not running on the MediaAgent.

For Windows, verify from the Windows Task Manager - Processes tab.

For Linux, run the commvault list command.

Copy the content of the DDB (CV_SIDB folder and icl_label.txt file) to a temporary folder.
Copy the permissions on the files and the folders.
Note
Make a note of the drive letter that hosts the DDB. This information is required later to re-create the volume on the upgraded disk with the same drive letter.

Upgrade the disk with a new storage media, such as SSD (solid state drive).

Re-create the volume on the upgraded disk with the same drive letter.

Copy the content of the DDB (CV_SIDB folder and icl_label.txt file) from the temporary location to the upgraded disk.

Start all services.
