Add a NAS File Server for Amazon FSx for Windows File Server Backups

You must add a NAS client to protect the SMB file share for Amazon FSx for Windows File Server.

Procedure

  1. On the Files tab, in the upper-right area of the page, click Add server.

  2. Select NAS.

  3. Click Next.

  4. In the Name box, enter a name for the NAS server.

  5. From the Vendor type list, select Generic.

  6. In the Host name box, enter a host name or fully qualified domain name for the NAS server.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Select an existing backup plan or create a new backup plan.

    Steps to create a new backup plan
    1. Click the add button add/plus button - gray - no border.

    The Create backup plan dialog box appears.

    1. In the Plan name, enter a name for the backup plan.

    2. From the Storage list, select the storage to use for the backups.

    3. For the backup plan settings, select pre-defined settings or create custom settings:

      • To select pre-defined settings, under Retention rules, select one of the following:

        • Select Standard retention to retain the incremental backups for 1 month.
      • To create custom settings, move the Custom plan toggle key to the right, and then specify the following:

        • For Retention, specify the amount of time to retain the backup jobs.

        • For Backups run every, specify how often to run backups.

    4. Click Done.

  9. Click Next.

  10. Under Network share configuration, enable CIFS.

  11. Select the Access Nodes to use for backups.

    Note

    • By default, only the access nodes with both FS and MA packages are displayed.
  12. Select an existing CIFS Credential or add a new one to access the CIFS shares.

    Steps to add new credentials

    To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

    1. In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

    2. In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.

    3. In the Password box, enter the password.

    4. In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.

    5. Click Save.

  13. By default, all CIFS share will be selected for backup. To change the content that is to be backed up, do the following:

    Note

    The CIFS credentials must be added to change the backup content.

    1. Under Backup content, disable All CIFS shares.

    2. Enter the path to the SMB file share as the Custom path and click the add Managing File System Subclients (2) button.

    3. In the Impersonate user dialog box, select or add the Credential to access the SMB share.

    4. Click Save.

  14. Click Add.
