Choosing The Right Frequency For a Selective Copy

The following table describes various frequencies that can be configured on a selective copy.

First Full Backup in every hour	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Hourly Fulls.
Last Full Backup in every hour	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Hourly Fulls. Click Last Full Backup. Select one of the following options: Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period Click OK. Notes: If you have enabled Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period and the backups are already scheduled, then the last full backup will be selected for the copy. If you do not have any scheduled backup jobs, then this option will select most recent full backup job that is already existing or manually run by you. Later, even if a backup schedule is configured, the last scheduled full job is not selected in the current period. The scheduled backup jobs are considered only from the next period. In this case, it is recommended to select Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period option to avoid selection of most recent full backup.
First Full Backup in every day	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Daily Fulls.
Last Full Backup in every day	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Daily Fulls. Click Last Full Backup. Select one of the following options: Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period Click OK. Notes: If you have enabled Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period and the backups are already scheduled, then the last full backup will be selected for the copy. If you do not have any scheduled backup jobs, then this option will select most recent full backup job that is already existing or manually run by you. Later, even if a backup schedule is configured, the last scheduled full job is not selected in the current period. The scheduled backup jobs are considered only from the next period. In this case, it is recommended to select Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period option to avoid selection of most recent full backup.
First Full Backup in every week (This is the default frequency for a selective copy)	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Weekly Fulls. From the For Weekly Full rule, the week starts on list, select the starting day of the week.	If the week starts on Friday, the first full backup performed on or after Friday will be selected for the copy.
Last Full Backup in every week	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Weekly Fulls. From the For Weekly Full rule, the week starts on list, select the starting day of the week. Click Last Full Backup. Select one of the following options: Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period Click OK. Notes: If you have enabled Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period and the backups are already scheduled, then the last full backup will be selected for the copy. If you do not have any scheduled backup jobs, then this option will select most recent full backup job that is already existing or manually run by you. Later, even if a backup schedule is configured, the last scheduled full job is not selected in the current period. The scheduled backup jobs are considered only from the next period. The week starts on Friday and you are performing the auxiliary copy operation on Wednesday, the backup will be selected as follows: If you select the Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period option, the most recent backup will be selected for the copy. However, if a full backup is scheduled on Thursday, no backup from the current week will be selected for the copy. For the full backup performed on Thursday, the backup job will be marked as To Be Copied when it completes. This selected backup job will be copied to media when you perform the Auxiliary Copy operation in the subsequent week. If you select the Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period, no backup from the current week will be selected for the copy. For the last full backup in the week, the backup job will be marked To Be Copied. After the current week is over, if you perform the auxiliary copy operation, the last full backup from that week will be selected for the copy.
First Full Backup in every month	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Monthly Fulls. From the For Monthly Full rule, the month starts on list, select the starting date for the month.	If the starting date of the month is 1, the first full backup performed on or after 1st will be selected for the copy.
Last Full Backup in every month	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Monthly Fulls. From the For Monthly Full rule, the month starts on list, select the starting date for the month. Click Last Full Backup. Select one of the following options: Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period Click OK. Notes: If you have enabled Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period and the backups are already scheduled, then the last full backup will be selected for the copy. If you do not have any scheduled backup jobs, then this option will select most recent full backup job that is already existing or manually run by you. Later, even if a backup schedule is configured, the last scheduled full job is not selected in the current period. The scheduled backup jobs are considered only from the next period. In this case, it is recommended to select Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period option to avoid selection of most recent full backup.	The starting day for a month is 1. You are performing the auxiliary copy operation on March 30 , the backup will be selected as follows: If you select the Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period option, the most recent backup will be selected for the copy. However, if a full backup is scheduled on March 31, no backup from March will be selected for the copy. For the full backup performed on March 31, the backup job will be marked as To Be Copied. This backup will be included in the selective copy if you perform the Auxiliary Copy operation in April. If you select the Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period, no backup from the current month will be selected for the copy. For the last full backup in March, the backup job will be marked To Be Copied. If you perform the auxiliary copy operation in April, the last full backup from March will be selected for the copy.
First Full Backup in every quarter	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Quarterly Fulls.	If the quarter starts on January 1, the first full backup on or after January 1 will be selected for the copy. In the standard Georgian calendar, the year starts on January 1 and it has 12 months. This year is divided into 4 quarters as follows: Quarter 1 (Q1) - January 1 to March 31 Quarter 2 (Q2)- April 1 to June 30 Quarter 3(Q3) - July 1 to September 30 Quarter 4(Q4) - October 1 to December 31 If you want to change the start day of the year, number of days in a month, or number of months in a year, you can create a custom calendar and associate it with the copy. Depending upon the settings in the custom calendar, the year is divided into four quarters.
Last Full Backup in every quarter	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Quarterly Fulls. Click Last Full Backup. Select one of the following options: Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period Click OK. In this case, it is recommended to select Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period option to avoid selection of most recent full backup.	The Q1 starts on January 1. You are performing the auxiliary copy operation on March 30 , the backup will be selected as follows: If you select the Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period option, the most recent backup will be selected for the copy. However, if a full backup is scheduled on March 31, no backup from the Q1 will be selected for the copy. For the full backup performed on March 31, the backup job will be marked as To Be Copied. This backup will be included in the selective copy if you perform the Auxiliary Copy operation in Q2. If you select the Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period, no backup from the current quarter will be selected for the copy. For the last full backup in Q1, the backup job will be marked To Be Copied. If you perform the auxiliary copy operation in Q2, the last full backup from Q1 will be selected for the copy.
First Full Backup in every half year	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Half Yearly Fulls.	If the year starts on January 1, the first full backup on or after January 1 will be selected for the copy. In the standard Georgian calendar, the year starts on January 1 and it has 12 months. This year is divided as follows: First Half Year - January 1 to June 30 Second Half Year - July 1 to December 31 If you want to change the start day of the year, number of days in a month, or number of months in a year, you can create a custom calendar and associate it with the copy. Depending upon the settings in the custom calendar, the half year period is calculated.
Last Full Backup in every half year	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Half Yearly Fulls. Click Last Full Backup. Select one of the following options: Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period Click OK. Note: If you have enabled Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period and the backups are already scheduled, then the last full backup will be selected for the copy. If you do not have any scheduled backup jobs, then this option will select most recent full backup job that is already existing or manually run by you. Later, even if a backup schedule is configured, the last scheduled full job is not selected in the current period. The scheduled backup jobs are considered only from the next period. In this case, it is recommended to select Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period option to avoid selection of most recent full backup.	The year starts on January 1. You are performing the auxiliary copy operation on June 25 , the backup will be selected as follows: If you select the Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period option, the most recent backup will be selected for the copy. However, if a full backup is scheduled on June 30, no backup from the first half year will be selected for the copy. For the full backup performed on June 30, the backup job will be marked as To Be Copied. This backup will be included in the selective copy if you perform the Auxiliary Copy operation in the second half year. If you select the Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period, no backup from the first half year will be selected for the copy. For the last full backup in the first half year, the backup job will be marked To Be Copied. If you perform the auxiliary copy operation in the second half year, the last full backup from the first half year will be selected for the copy.
First Full Backup in every year	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Yearly Fulls.	If the year starts on January 1, the first full backup on or after January 1 will be selected for the copy. In the standard Georgian calendar, the year starts on January 1 and it has 12 months. If you want to change the start day of the year, number of days in a month, or number of months in a year, you can create a custom calendar and associate it with the copy.
Last Full Backup in every year	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Yearly Fulls. Click Last Full Backup. Select one of the following options: Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period Click OK. Note: If you have enabled Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period and the backups are already scheduled, then the last full backup will be selected for the copy. If you do not have any scheduled backup jobs, then this option will select most recent full backup job that is already existing or manually run by you. Later, even if a backup schedule is configured, the last scheduled full job is not selected in the current period. The scheduled backup jobs are considered only from the next period. In this case, it is recommended to select Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period option to avoid selection of most recent full backup.	The year starts on January 1. You are performing the auxiliary copy operation on December 30, the backup will be selected as follows: If you select the Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period option, the most recent backup will be selected for the copy. However, if a full backup is scheduled on December 31, no backup from the year will be selected for the copy. For the full backup performed on December 31, the backup job will be marked as To Be Copied. This backup will be included in the selective copy if you perform the Auxiliary Copy operation in the subsequent year. If you select the Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period, no backup from the current year will be selected for the copy. For the last full backup in the previous year, the backup job will be marked To Be Copied. If you perform the auxiliary copy operation in the subsequent year, the last full backup from the previous year will be selected for the copy.
First full Backups performed after a specific time period The Time period can be specified in cycles/days/weeks/months	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Advanced. Click Advanced. Select one of the following options in the Advanced Options dialog box: Every <n> Cycle(s) - Select this option and enter the number of backup cycles. A backup cycle is a group of backup operations, starting with a full backup. Every <n> Days - Select this option and enter the number of days. Every <n> Weeks - Select this option and enter the number of weeks. Every <n> Months - Select this option and enter the number of months. In the Advanced Options dialog box, click OK. In the Copy Properties dialog box, click OK.	If you have specified time period as 3 days then the first full backup after every 3 days will be selected for the copy.
Last full Backups performed after a specific time period The Time period can be specified in cycles/days/weeks/months	From the Automatically select Full Backups at frequency list, select Advanced. Click Advanced. Select one of the following options in the Advanced Options dialog box: Every <n> Cycle(s) - Select this option and enter the number of backup cycles. A backup cycle is a group of backup operations, starting with a full backup. Every <n> Days - Select this option and enter the number of days. Every <n> Weeks - Select this option and enter the number of weeks. Every <n> Months - Select this option and enter the number of months. In the Advanced Options dialog box, click OK. Click Last Full Backup. Select one of the following options: Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period	If you have specified time period as 3 days and you are performing auxiliary copy on the second day, the backup will be selected as follows: If you select the Select most recent job if there are no more full backup schedules in current time period option, the most recent backup will be selected for the copy. However, if a full backup is scheduled on the third day, no backup will be selected for the copy. For the full backup performed on the third day, the backup job will be marked as To Be Copied. This backup will be included in the selective copy if you perform the Auxiliary Copy operation on or after the fourth day. If you select the Wait until the current period is over before selecting a backup for this time period, no backup will be selected for the copy. For the last full backup in the 3 days time period, the backup job will be marked To Be Copied.

Important:

A selective copy can pick only one job for a period. If a job already exists the copy based on the previous frequency rule or manual selection, then another job is not picked even if the job qualifies based on the rule in the current period.

For example:
- If first full backup with monthly option is enabled and a job is picked in the current period, and during halfway of the current period, if you modify the rule to last full, then the last full job from the current period will not get picked.
  
  The last full rule will be effective only from the next period.
- If first full backup with monthly option is selected and there are no full backup jobs in the current period, if you modified the rule as last full, then the last full backup job from the current period will be selected for copy.
