Configuring Live Browse for Block-level Backups on Windows Computers

Applies to: Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 or later.

Live browse initiates a pseudo-mount which constructs a device to store the blocks. The size of the staging folder must be at least 4 GB. The recommended size of the staging folder is 10% of the restore data, and it can be as large as the restore data. If the size of the staging folder is smaller than the restore data, then the extents are pruned based on the LRU (Least Recently Used) algorithm, for the new extent restores. This might result in decreased performance during the restore operation.

By default, the staging folder is in the job results directory. You can configure a different path to the staging folder.

Note

Live browse and file-level restore from block-level backups is not supported for tape libraries, VTLs, and cloud library that is configured as archive storage.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Console, expand Client Computers.

  2. Right-click the Client, and then click Properties.

  3. In the Client Computer Properties dialog box, click Advanced.

The Advanced Client Properties dialog box appears.

  4. To change the path to the staging folder, on the General tab, in the Block Level Client Cache Directory box, type the path to the staging folder.

  5. Click OK.

Note: If you have an antivirus software installed on your computer, make sure that you add the Commvault vendor disks to the antivirus exclusion list.
