To get started with file storage optimization, install the software, complete the File Storage Optimization guided setup, and add data sources to analyze.
Procedure
-
Verify that your environment meets the system requirements for File Storage Optimization.
-
Install the Index Store package and the Index Gateway package.
These entities perform the data analysis operations required for File Storage Optimization.
-
Complete the guided setup for File Storage Optimization.
The guided setup guides you through creating a data classification plan, an index server, and an inventory. The inventory stores the information within a domain such as Active Directory.
-
Set permissions for users so that they can access File Storage Optimization.
To set permissions for a user, create an association between the Data Controller security role, the CommCell computer, and the infrastructure administrator and the data controller users. For more information, see Permissions for Data Insights.
-
Add data to analyze:
Data Source
Steps
File servers included in the inventory
-
On the Server tab, click Add server > File system.
Note
If you plan to use the Entitlement Manager, when you add a file server choose to analyze data from source data, not data that was backed up.
For information about adding file server data sources, see Adding a File Server Data Source for File Storage Optimization, Adding File Server Data Sources for File Storage Optimization in Bulk from a CSV File, and Adding File Server Data Sources for File Storage Optimization in Bulk.
Object storage included in the inventory
-
On the Server tab, click Add server > Object storage.
For information about adding object storage data sources, see Adding a Object Storage Data Source.
All file servers in a server group
-
On the Server group tab, click Add server group.
For information about adding server groups, see Adding a Server Group for File Storage Optimization.
