Cross platform failovers between Windows and Linux CommServe hosts (and vice-versa) can be performed.
Installing the CommServe Hosts
Windows to Linux Failovers
You can setup a Windows server as the production host with one or more Linux servers as the standby host as follows:
-
Install the production CommServe host in a Windows server or set up CommServe LiveSync for an existing CommServe server.
-
Install the standby CommServe host in a Linux server.
Linux to Windows Failovers
Alternatively, you can setup a Linux server as the production host with one or more Windows servers as the standby host as follows:
-
Install the production CommServe host in a Linux server or install the CommServe failover package on an existing Linux CommServe.
-
Install the standby CommServe host in a Windows server.
Note
After installing the production and standby hosts, make sure to configure connectivity to Web Server and Workflow Engine client. For more information, see the following topics:
Enabling CommServe LiveSync
You can enable the LiveSync operation using one of the following interfaces:
-
Command Center: Enabling CommServe LiveSync
-
CommCell Console: Enabling the LiveSync operation
Performing Failovers
Test Failovers
Test Failovers can be performed either from a Windows CommServe Host or from a Linux CommServe hosts as follows:
-
Perform a test failover from Windows to verify disaster readiness.
After verifying disaster readiness, Reset the test failover from Windows.
-
Perform a test failover from Linux to verify disaster readiness.
After verifying disaster readiness, Reset the test failover from Linux.
Note
After performing a cross platform failover, modify the export destination for Disaster Recovery (DR) backups to make sure that it is pointing to the correct location in the currently active CommServe. For information about modifying the DR backup export destination, see Configuring a Local Drive or Network Share as the Export Destination for Disaster Recovery.
Production Failovers
Production failovers can be performed either from a Windows CommServe Host or from a Linux CommServe hosts as follows:
-
Initiate a production failover from a Windows CommServe host using one of the following methods:
-
Initiate a production failover from a Linux CommServe host using one of the following methods:
Maintenance Failovers
Maintenance Failovers can be performed either from a Windows CommServe Host or from a Linux CommServe hosts as follows:
-
Initiate a Maintenance Failover from Windows to perform maintenance related activities on the Windows CommServe host.
Once the maintenance activities are completed Reset the maintenance failover from Windows.
-
Initiate a maintenance failover to perform maintenance related activities on the Linux CommServe host.
Once the maintenance activities are completed Reset the maintenance failover from Linux.
