When selecting a server as a data source, the amount of information that you are required to enter depends on the status of the file server and whether the data is protected or not protected.
Gather the information that applies to the status of the filer server used as the data source:

A file system agent is installed on the server, and content indexing is enabled. You can choose content indexed data or unprotected local data as the data source. |

A file system agent is installed on the server, and content indexing is not enabled. You can choose backed up data (if backup jobs were run) or unprotected local data as the data source. |

Agent not installed |
A file system agent is not installed on the server, so the data is unprotected. You can add a UNC path or an NFS export as the data source. |
