Restores Using the Windows File System Agent With a Map File

By using the available restore options, you can restore all the selected data to one specific destination. However, you can use a map file to restore individual files and folders to different locations.

The map file contains a list of files to be restored, with their corresponding restore paths.

For example, if you want to restore a file in Drive C, it would be difficult to browse through hundreds of your documents to select that particular file. Instead, if you create a map file with the source and destination information, only the required file is restored to the specified destination.

In addition, you can restore a set of files to a specified location and some files within the defined set to different destinations.

For example, if you want to restore a particular file to 10 different destinations, you can specify the destinations in the map file and perform a restore.

You can also restore files partially by using a map file. For more information, see Create a Map File for Partial File Restores.

Performing restore operations by using a map file involve the following series of tasks:

  1. Create a Map File or Create a Map File for Partial File Restores

  2. Optional:Converting Restore Map Files with Unicode Characters

  3. Restoring Data Using a Map File
