A floating host name (or a virtual host name) can be used to install and setup the CommServe hosts.
A floating CommServe name is merely a DNS alias that points to a CommServe server. Initially, you must create a DNS entry for a floating CommServe name with the IP address associated with production CommServe host. During a failover, you must update this DNS entry with the IP address of the standby CommServe host.
Procedure
-
Enable the DNS Server Tools in both the production and standby CommServe hosts, so that the DNS commands can be executed remotely. For more information about enabling DNS tools, see Enabling DNS Server Tools.
-
Define the floating host name and map it to the IP address of the production CommServe host.
For example, to define the floating host name create a DNS record with a virtual host name and IP address of the production host. For more information on creating a DNS record, refer to one of the following procedures appropriate to your environment:
-
Test and verify that the floating CommServe host resolves to the IP address associated with the production CommServe host using
ping
or the equivalent network command.
