When restoring a full virtual machine from a backup for Azure Resource Manager, you can restore as Microsoft Hyper-V to create a new Hyper-V virtual machine. This option enables you to duplicate a virtual machine from Azure Resource Manager to the Hyper-V environment, or to migrate a VM from Azure Resource Manager to Hyper-V.
Conversion creates Hyper-V Generation 1 VMs.
You can perform VM conversions from streaming backups, from secondary copies, or from IntelliSnap backup copies. You cannot perform a conversion from a Snap copy.
Before You Begin

Before performing backups that you use for conversions, configure source VMs to use DHCP instead of using static IP addresses. The conversion process does not restore static IP addresses.

To get the most up-to-date instance of a virtual machine, power off the source VM and perform a backup before initiating the conversion.

For Windows computers: enable the pagefile on the C: drive of the source VM. This will prevent you from receiving an error message when you reboot the destination VM.

For Linux computers: Ensure that the fstab entry of the source disk should be based on disk UUID and not disk name. If it is not based on disk UUID, then the restored VM will not boot up.

VMs that are encrypted using Azure AD Base encryption (that is, using BitLocker inside the guest VM) cannot be converted, but VMs encrypted using Azure Storage Server side Encryption at Rest (that is, using Disk Encryption Sets and Customer-Managed Keys) can be restored.

The destination client must be a Hyper-V server that has the Virtual Server Agent installed.

Hyper-V VM Considerations
- The Hyper-V VM name can only contain alphanumeric characters or the '-' character; the name cannot contain any Unicode Transformation Format (UTF) characters.
Procedure
Perform the following steps to access a VMware backup and create a Hyper-V virtual machine:

From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers > virtualization_client > Virtual Server > Azure Resource Manager > backup_set.

Right-click the subclient that contains the backup for the VMware virtual machine to convert and then select Browse and Restore.

In the Browse and Restore Options window, select Full Virtual Machine.

From the Restore as list beside Full Virtual Machine, select Microsoft Hyper-V.

Click View Content.
A Client tab shows the contents of the most recent backup for the subclient.

Select one or more virtual machines.

Click Recover All Selected at the bottom of the window.
The Restore VM wizard opens.

On the Destination page, enter the required information for the Hyper-V destination.

Click Next.

On the Virtual Machines page, enter the required information for the restored Hyper-V VMs.

Click Next.

On the Restore Options page, enter information for restoring Hyper-V VMs.

Click Next.

On the Job Options page, choose to run the job immediately or configure a schedule for the restore.

Click Next.
The Summary page displays the settings for restore operation.

Click Finish.
