Use a map file when you have a list of files to restore when:

Each file has a different destination
-
A subset of the files have different destinations
Best Practice: Use a map file when the number of files that you want to restore is more than 10 files, and at least half of the files that you want to restore have different restore destinations.
Before You Begin
Create the map file on the access node assigned to the destination IBM i client.
Procedure

From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers> client> File System > backup_set.

Right-click the subclient, point to All Tasks and then click Browse and Restore.

On the Browse and Restore Options dialog box, select Latest Backup and then click View Content.

Optional: Use non-default Browse and Restore options. See Browse and Restore.

From the Browse window, select the data to restore in the right pane and then click Recover All Selected.
The Restore Options dialog box appears.

On the General tab, make the following selections:

From the Destination Client list, select the restore destination computer.

Select the restore options.

Click Advanced.
The Advanced Restore Options dialog box appears.

On the Map tab, select the map file options.
-
Select the Use map file check box.
-
In the Map File Path box, type the full path name to the map file.

Select whether to restore unmapped files.
-
To restore all the files to a different destination, clear the Restore unmapped file check box.

To restore a subset of the file to a different destination, select the Restore unmapped file check box .

To add a suffix to each file that you restore, select the Rename all restore files with suffix check box.
On Windows, the suffix is added before the file type extension.
On UNIX and Mac, the suffix is added after the file type extension.

Optional: Select the advanced restore options.

Restore the deleted items

On the Browse Options tab, select the Restore deleted items check box.

Select the Specify Time Range check box.

Select the Start Time and End Time check boxes and then enter the time range for the deleted files.
Exclude files and directories from the restore
-
On the Paths/Filters Options tab, in the Filter Item section:

Click the Add button.
-
Enter the file, or directory that you want to exclude. You can use wildcards to specify the path, or file.

Click OK.

Restore the private authority with the object
On the General tab, select the Restore Private authority (PVTAUT) check box.
Restore the spool files.
On the General tab, select the Restore Spooled file data (SPLFDTA) check box.
Allow object differences
On the General tab, select the Allow object differences (ALLOWOBJDIF) check box and one of the following options:
None
There can be no difference between the saved data and the restored data.
*ALL
Allow all differences between the saved data and the restored data.
Note: This option does not guarantee compatibility with the existing databases, so you may need to correct the database after the restore.
*COMPATIBILE
Allow differences that are compatible with the existing databases.
Note: This option is available only when the operating system is version V7Rx or later.
Best Practice: Use this option instead of *ALL because it guarantees compatibility with the existing databases.
Other
Allow a combination of the following parameter differences:
*AUTL
Allow authorization list differences.
*FILELVL
Allow file level ID and member level ID differences.
*OWNER
Allow file ownership differences.
*PGP
Allow primary group differences.
Convert the user objects to the format that the current operating system version requires or to be compatible with the current machine.
On the General tab, select an option from the Force Object Conversion list.
*SYSVAL
Convert the objects by using the QFRCCVNRST system value.
*NO
Prevent the user options from being converted.
*YES*RQD
Convert the user objects that must be converted to be compatible with the current machine.
*YES*ALL
Convert all the user objects.

Click OK to close the Advanced Restore Options dialog box .

Click OK to close the Restore Options dialog box and start the restore.
