Information You Need to Create an Email Journaling App for the ContentStore Mailbox

When you create an Email Journaling App for a ContentStore Mailbox, you need the following information.

General Information

Server name

Provide a name for the Email Journaling App.

Server plan

The name of server plan that you want to associate with the Email Journaling App.

Exchange Plan

The name of Exchange plan that you want to associate with the Email Journaling App.

Index server

The index server that you created for the application.

Access nodes

The list of access nodes that you want to associate with the Email Journaling App.

You must associate at least one access node with the Email Journaling App.

Exchange Environment Information

Display name

The display name of the contact.

SMTP Address

The address of the contact in the format name@domain.com.

Exchange Service Accounts Information

You need the service account (that is, the Exchange Service Account) user name and password. This is the account that has Exchange administrative permissions.

Service type

The service type is Local System Account.

User name

The user name of the service account.

Password

The password of the service account.

Certificate file

Browse to the SSL certificate and upload it to the ContentStore Mail Server (SMTP).

  • The certificate must include the fully qualified domain names of the endpoints to which the SMTP clients connect. Usually, this is the SMTP host name.

  • The supported format is PKCS#12 (.p12 or .pfx) and it must contain both public key certificates and private keys.

Important

If you use Office 365 with Exchange (Exchange Online), after you upload the SSL certificate and enable TLS for SMTP, you must enable TLS on the Send connector. For more information, see the Microsoft TechNet article: "Set up connectors for secure mail flow with a partner organization": https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn751021(v=exchg.150).aspx.

Password

The SSL certificate password

ContentStore mail server

The server name of the ContentStore Mail Server (SMTP). This value is read-only.

Cache location

Messages received by the ContentStore Mail Server (SMTP) are stored in this folder before they are processed by the ContentStore Mailbox archiving job. If the Delete archived messages after successful archive operations option in the Exchange journal plan is enabled, messages are deleted from this folder after the archive job completes.

By default, this location is in the software installation path. You can change the path to another location, which can be a local path or a shared network location. If you use a shared network location, you configure it first.

For best performance, follow these guidelines:

  • Locate this folder on a storage device that has a fast access speed.

  • Do not locate the folder on a system drive.

  • The location should have enough space to hold two-week's worth of messages. Calculate this space based on the amount of email that you expect to be received on the Exchange server.

  • Exclude the folder path from antivirus scanning.

If you use a shared network location, you must configure it first.

Important

  • Make sure that the shared network location is always available.

  • Do not use the same share across multiple SMTP access nodes.

  • Grant the service account full access to the shared folder.

Each server must have its own shared network location. For example:

SMTP server 1: \\SMTP\share1

SMTP server 2: \\SMTP\share2
