Managing IBM i File System 1-Touch Disaster Recovery Subclients

You can create a disaster recovery subclient and run backups on it so that you are prepared for a disaster recovery.

Procedure

  1. You can add a subclient on the backup set details page. You can edit the subclient content on the subclient details page.

    • Backup set details: From the navigation pane, click Administration > Servers > server > agent > backup_set. Then, in the right of the page click Add DR subclient.

The Add Subclient dialog box appears.

    • Subclient details: To edit the subclient content, from the navigation pane, click Administration > Servers > server > agent > backup set > subclient > Configuration. Then, in the Content area, click Edit.

The Add/Edit content dialog box appears.

  2. On the General tab, provide the subclient details.

    1. In the Subclient Name box, type the subclient name.

    2. In the Backup Configuration section, perform one of the following steps to determine the plan or policies to use for the backup operations:

      • To use a server plan, enable the Use backup plan slider, and then select a server plan.

      • To use a storage policy and a schedule policy, disable the Use backup plan slider, select a storage policy and a schedule policy.

  3. Click IBM i DR configuration.

  4. In the Temporary directory for virtual DVD images box, type the full path that is located on the IFS file system where the software can create the DVD catalog image.

  5. In the Abort DR backup if running longer than (minutes) box, type the time in minutes that the DR backup job can run.

This is the maximum time that the IBM i client computer can be kept in a restricted state.

    Note

When this time period expires, the software aborts the job and starts all of the subsystems. When you set this value, add the following times together to get the proper value:

    • The maximum time that the IBM i client computer can be kept in a restricted state

    • If specified, the maximum time that a restricted state program takes

  6. To notify users that the system will be suspended, select the Notify users check box, and then complete the following steps:

    1. In the Delay (min) before switch to restricted mode box, select the number of minutes.

    2. In the Notification message box, type the message that the software sends to users.

      Note

Use the ## parameter to indicate the time in minutes. for example, "The system will shut down in ## minutes".

  7. Optional: In the Program to execute while system is in restricted state box, type the full path to the program the software runs after the DVD catalog images are created and before the system returns from the suspended state.

    Note

If you selected the option to have the IPL performed after, and you specify this parameter, then the restricted state program runs after the backup completes and before the software performs the IPL.

  8. Optional: In the Run custom startup program box, type the full path to the program that starts the subsystems.

    Note

Leave this field blank to use the start-up program that is specified in the IBM i client’s system value QSTRUPPGM to start the subsystems and services. If you specify any custom startup program, then the subsystems and services start according to the specified program. If you selected the option to perform the IPL after the backup, then the system value QSTRUPPGM is updated with the custom start-up program.

  9. Click Save.

Result

The software adds the 1-Touch DR subclient and you can perform backup operation on the subclient.
