Adding a Client for Cassandra

After you install the Cassandra Agent, configure a client for the Cassandra database instance, and then configure the Cassandra nodes.

The client is the interface that you use to manage the Cassandra cluster. When you add a client, you specify the instance that represents the Cassandra cluster that you want to protect.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click Client Computers, point to New Client > Big Data Apps, and then click Cassandra.

The Create Cassandra Client dialog box appears.

  2. On the General tab, enter the Cassandra cluster details.

    1. In the Client Name box, type the name.

    2. In the Instance Name box, type the name that represents the Cassandra cluster in the CommCell Console.

    3. From the Gateway Node list, select the Cassandra node that the Commvault software connects to, and uses for managing and initiating Cassandra node data protection operations.

    4. Optional: In the Gateway Java path box, type the full path to the Cassandra gateway node Java installation path, for example, /opt/java/jreXX.xx/bin, or the symbolic link. By default, the Gateway Java path is detected during the backup automatically.

      Note

When you specify the Java path and the data directory, do not end the path with the "/".

    5. In the CQL Host box, type the IP address of the node the software uses for Cassandra CQL connections.

    6. In the CQL Port box, type the port that the Cassandra software uses for Cassandra CQL connections.

    7. In the JMX port box, type the port number that the Cassandra software uses for JMX connections.

    8. To set up the Cassandra authentication options, click Configure.

For information, see Configuring Cassandra Authentication.

  3. On the Storage Device tab, on the Data Storage Policy tab, from the Storage Policy used by default subclient list, select the storage policy.

  4. Click OK.

Result

The software creates the following entities:

  • The client

  • An instance with the name that you specified

  • A default subclient

What to Do Next

  1. If you have not installed the Commvault Cassandra package on the nodes, then have the Commvault software push the Cassandra package to the nodes. For more information, see Automatically Installing the Commvault Cassandra Package.

  2. If you have installed the Commvault Cassandra package on the nodes, then configure your nodes. For more information, see Configure your Cassandra nodes.

After you configure your Cassandra nodes, you can perform the backup and restore operations on the default subclient.
